Electricity Supply Expected by Year-End
The first unit of the Ruppur Nuclear Plant is expected to supply 1,200 megawatts of electricity to the national grid by the end of this year.
This information was shared on Thursday (12 March) by Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, the Minister of Finance and Planning.
He made the statement while briefing journalists after a courtesy meeting with Alexander Khozin at the Planning Commission in Dhaka.
Fuel Loading to Begin on April 7
After the meeting, the minister said that work at the Ruppur Nuclear Plant is progressing quickly.
He announced that the official fuel loading process will begin on April 7. Once the fuel loading process is successfully completed, trial electricity generation is expected to begin between June and July.

Test Production Will Also Supply Power
The minister said electricity produced during the trial production phase will also be connected to the national grid. However, the plant will gradually increase its production capacity during the testing period.By December, the first unit is expected to reach its full capacity of 1,200 megawatts, which will then be supplied regularly to the national grid.
Gradual Increase in Power Output
According to officials involved in the project, a nuclear power plant is not operated at full capacity during its initial trial phase.
Therefore, after power generation begins in June or July, the amount of electricity supplied to the grid will increase gradually at different stages until December.
