A Young Life Cut Short
Sixteen-year-old Muna Akhter had just begun a new job three days ago before the Mirpur Fire, full of dreams and hope for a better life with her husband. Married only six months earlier, Muna believed her new job would help her rebuild her future.
But her dreams ended tragically when a fire broke out in a building in Mirpur’s Shialbari area, claiming her life.

From Netrakona to Dhaka: A Journey of Hope
Muna originally came from Netrakona. About six months ago, she moved to Dhaka in search of work. Like many young girls who come to the city for a better life, she too carried big dreams — dreams that ended in the flames of Mirpur.
Identified by Her Pink Dress
At Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday night, Muna’s elder sister, Champa Akhter, identified her sister’s body at the morgue. She recognized Muna by the pink kameez she had been wearing.

Champa said,
“মাত্র তিন দিন হলো ওর কাজ শুরু করেছে। ও বলেছিল, এবার জীবনটাকে গুছিয়ে নেবে। কে জানত, ওর জীবন গড়ার সুযোগ ছাই হয়ে যাবে।”
Translation: “It’s only been three days since she started work. She told me this time she’d finally get her life together. Who knew her chance to build a life would end in ashes.”
Final Steps Before Farewell
After preliminary identification, Muna’s body was sent for DNA testing before being handed over to her family. Her death has left her loved ones in deep grief, marking yet another tragic loss from the Mirpur fire.
