4G Network Now Available on the Moon: A New Era in Space Communication

Nokia is breaking boundaries in space communication by taking the initiative to install a 4G wireless network on the Moon for the first time. Later this month, a mission by Intuitive Machines is scheduled to send this technology to the Moon. Since the Apollo mission, point-to-point radio communications. Which need a direct line of sight between transmitting and receiving antennas have served as the foundation for both surface communications and the connection back to Earth. In the past, there were never too many sites to connect; therefore, using point-to-point radio in space wasn’t too difficult. It was only a rover, a lander or a single spaceship communicating with Earth. They also didn’t have to transmit a lot of data.

Although permanent residence is hoped for in the 2030. Humans are scheduled to return to the Moon by 2028 as part of NASA’s Artemis mission. This makes more sophisticated communication methods necessary. Nokia is launching “Network in a Box,” a unique technology created to survive the hostile lunar environment, in partnership with NASA. Connectivity between landers and cars will be its main function. But at first, this network will only be up and running for a few days. To improve communication for lunar exploration and habitation, NASA and Nokia intend to roll out more sophisticated 4G or 5G networks in the future. These networks will link to livable stations and the Axiom suit. Nonetheless, telescopic studies may be hampered by the existence of a cellular network on the Moon, according to scientists. To address this issue, Nokia is already working on assigning a specific frequency to ensure that the Moon’s 4G network remains compatible with Earth’s standards.
