Eight-year-old Arrietty Islam from Bangladesh has won a gold medal at the International Robotics Olympiad held in South Korea. Representing Monipur High School and College, she created an innovative robot to fight water pollution, which impressed judges and audiences. Arrietty’s journey began at just three years old, and her talent, supported by her father and AIrobot, has now placed her on the global stage.
Young Genius from Bangladesh Makes History
Arrietty Islam, a student of Monipur High School and College, has become a national pride by winning a gold medal at the International Robotics Olympiad. Despite being only 8 years old, she participated in the Junior Group’s ‘Creative’ category and showcased a robot she designed and built herself.
She competed as part of Team Anari, and her robot caught everyone’s attention for being both practical and creative.

What Her Robot Does
At the Olympiad in South Korea, Arrietty had just five hours to build, program, and submit her robot. And she did it all on-site, under strict time pressure!
Her robot was built to help clean polluted water. It uses an electromagnet to collect metal waste, such as screws or bolts, from water bodies. It runs on a Raspberry Pi (a minicomputer), has a servo motor to move around, and even has a screen that shows the weight of the collected waste in real time.
Why the Robot Stood Out
Judges at the event were amazed not just by the idea, but also by how clearly Arrietty explained her invention. Her robot fit perfectly with the Olympiad’s theme:
“Improving Water Quality.”
She confidently described the robot’s working process and how it could be used in real life to fight pollution.
A Father’s Support and Early Training
Arrietty’s journey into robotics started at a very young age — when she was only three or four. Her father, a software engineer, played a big role in encouraging her interest. He helped her attend various workshops and trainings to build her skills.
She was later trained by AIrobot, a robotics training platform, which helped her develop the confidence and technical know-how to build such advanced projects.
What She Said During the Olympiad
“আমি নিজের হাতে এই রোবট তৈরি করেছি এবং এর কাজের পুরো প্রক্রিয়াটাও আমি নিজের মুখেই বোঝাতে পেরেছি।”
“I built this robot with my own hands, and I was also able to explain its entire function by myself.”
Her confident presentation was praised by the judges and trainers alike in the International Robotics Olympiad.
Big Dreams for the Future
Arrietty dreams of using robots to solve real-life problems in Bangladesh. She wants to continue developing robots that can simplify everyday tasks and make people’s lives easier.
Her victory is more than just a medal—it’s a symbol of what young minds in Bangladesh can achieve with the right support and exposure.
A Proud Moment for Bangladesh
Arrietty’s achievement shows the power of early exposure to technology, parental support, and quality training. Her gold medal proves that Bangladeshi children can compete and win at the highest levels of innovation.
She is not just a winner—she is a role model for thousands of young talents across the country.
