Dhaka’s Air Quality is ‘Tolerable’ Today, Ranked 48th in The World

Today, Thursday (June 19, 2025), the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka and its surrounding areas may experience partly cloudy to temporarily cloudy skies. As a result, there is a possibility of rain or thundershowers throughout the day, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Storm Warning Center.

The short-term forecast for the next 6 hours from 7 am says that winds may blow from the south and southeast at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour. Although the daytime temperature may remain almost unchanged, it may decrease slightly.

•Humidity: 85 percent

•Yesterday’s highest temperature: 30.5 degrees Celsius

•Today’s lowest temperature: 26.8 degrees Celsius

Air Pollution and AQI Score:

According to today’s air quality data, Dhaka is ranked 48th among the world’s cities. According to the 8:45 am data from Switzerland-based air quality monitoring agency ‘IQAir’, Dhaka’s Air Quality Index (AQI) score is 66, which indicates ‘tolerable’ or moderate quality air.

Top air pollution cities at a glance (according to AQI score):

•Lahore, Pakistan – Score: 166 (Unhealthy)

•Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Score: 154 (Unhealthy)

•Jakarta, Indonesia – Score: 147 (Unhealthy for sensitive groups)

•Manila, Philippines – Score: 145 (Unhealthy for sensitive groups)

The Meteorological Department also said that 10 millimetres of rainfall has been recorded in the capital in the last 24 hours. On the other hand, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecast continuous rain across the country for five days on Wednesday night. Since there is a possibility of rain today, it is advisable to carry an umbrella and stay away from power lines or tall trees during rain.

In addition, those with respiratory problems are advised to exercise special caution when moving outdoors. Today in Dhaka will be spent with cloudy skies, light winds and possible rain. At the same time, although the air quality is tolerable, it is important to maintain health awareness. Awareness of all of us to protect the balance of the environment is the demand of the hour.
