In a surprising turn, the security cameras installed in homes across Israel are now being seen as a threat. According to Israeli authorities, Iran has allegedly hacked into many of these CCTV systems.
Using Footage to Plan Attacks
Officials in Tel Aviv claim that Iran is analysing home camera footage to decide where to target in future attacks. They say Iran also uses this footage to understand the damage after a missile strike.
Public Warnings Broadcasted
Israeli radio stations are spreading warnings about the hacking. Cybersecurity experts are asking people to change their weak passwords immediately. These alerts have caused fear and panic among many Israeli citizens.

Advice from a Former Cyber Officer
After a recent missile hit in Tel Aviv last week, a former Israeli cyber security officer went on air to issue a strong warning. He advised everyone to either turn off their home cameras or change the passwords right away.
He added that Iranians might be using hacked footage to locate the exact spots of missile hits. This information could help them carry out more accurate attacks in the future.
Israel’s Cyber Agency Confirms the Threat
The Israeli Cyber Department has confirmed that internet-connected cameras are now part of Iran’s war strategy. They said such hacking attempts have increased since the conflict started.
Not the First Time
This is not the first time Israel has faced such threats. Before the 7 October 2023 attack, Hamas had also hacked private cameras near Israeli borders to gather information.
Israel’s cyber chief later revealed that thousands of private and government cameras had been used for spying over the years.
Cheap but Risky Devices
Many Israelis use these security cameras because they are affordable and easy to set up. However, experts warn that such devices are also easy to hack. Through them, enemy forces can spot military and police locations.
Iran Also Facing Cyber Attacks
Meanwhile, Iran itself is also under cyber threat. An Israeli hacker group named Predatory Sparrow claimed to have stolen $90 million from Iran’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange, Nobitex.
Iran’s two major banks have also been attacked by hackers recently.
