From September 2024 to May 2025, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) recovered Tk 994 crore in unpaid taxes and duties by conducting several drives to detect tax and revenue evasion across the country.
Over 16,000 Drives to Stop Tax Evasion
In the last 9 months, two major wings of the NBR—Customs and Income Tax, along with its intelligence units, carried out 16,572 investigations into tax and revenue evasion.
These operations found a total of Tk 6,246 crore in evaded taxes. Out of this, Tk 994 crore has already been collected.
Customs Houses Fully Recover Tk 183 Crore
During this period, various Customs Houses conducted 2,215 operations. They uncovered tax evasion worth Tk 183 crore, and importantly, the full amount was recovered.
Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerate’s Recover Tk 89 Crore
These offices carried out 6,803 operations and found that Tk 513 crore in taxes was being evaded. Out of this, they were able to collect Tk 89 crore.

VAT Intelligence Unit Collects Tk 240 Crore
The VAT Intelligence Unit (Dhaka) carried out 231 operations, detecting Tk 1,639 crore in evaded taxes. They managed to collect Tk 240 crore from these cases.
Customs Intelligence Collects Tk 73 Crore
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate also played an active role by collecting Tk 73 crore through its operations during this time.
Central Intelligence Cell Recovers Tk 194 Crore
The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) conducted 181 investigations into tax evasion. These efforts uncovered Tk 366 crore, and they were able to recover Tk 194 crore.
Income Tax Intelligence Recovers Tk 110 Crore
The Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit completed 170 operations. These revealed Tk 1,874 crore in tax evasion, and Tk 110 crore was collected from the responsible parties.
Regional Tax Offices Collect Tk 105 Crore
A total of 41 regional tax offices jointly ran 6,972 drives, identifying Tk 1,588 crore in unpaid taxes. From these, Tk 105 crore was recovered.
NBR Continues Efforts to Maximize National Revenue
According to the press release, the NBR’s ongoing activities are helping the country by ensuring more accurate tax collection. These operations are part of NBR’s effort to meet revenue targets and support national development.
