The Swedish government is providing a grant of Tk 61.6 million to help Bangladesh build capacity in managing environmentally vulnerable areas, conserve biodiversity, and address climate change risks. A significant grant agreement has been signed between the Government of Bangladesh and the Government of Sweden for this purpose.
Contract Signing Details
The agreement was signed on Thursday, July 3, at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) conference room in Sher-e-Banglanagar in the capital. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh by ERD Secretary (Routine Duty) Dr. AKM Shahabuddin, and on behalf of the Government of Sweden by Head of Development Corporation and Charge d’Affaires Maria Stridsman.

The agreement signing ceremony was attended by concerned officials of the Embassy of Sweden, representatives of the Economic Relations Division and high-level officials of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Project Name and Objective
The agreement has been signed under the project titled “Strengthening Capacity for Natural Resource Management and Improved Climate Resilience”.
The main objectives of the project are:
•Increasing efficiency in monitoring and management of environmentally critical areas
•Establishment of a Wildlife Trust Fund
•Long-term planning and implementation for biodiversity conservation
•Improving capacity to adapt to climate change
This project will be implemented from July 2025 to December 2026. Bangladesh is one of the countries at risk from climate change. Protecting biodiversity, conserving forests and ensuring the safety of wildlife in coastal and environmentally vulnerable areas is becoming increasingly important. This Swedish grant project is considered an important international support in this sector, which will make a major contribution to the goals of sustainable development and environmental protection.
