No one would have thought that a simple boy from Mirpur would one day stand at the helm of a global tech giant like Microsoft. But Mohammad Asifuzzaman has proven that great success is possible only with the combination of dreams, hard work and talent. He is currently serving as the Operations Lead of the Microsoft 365 division in the United States.
Love for Technology since Childhood
Asif’s childhood dream was to become a pilot, army officer or scientist. But with time, his inclination towards technology started to grow. A deep interest in technology was born while reading various tech magazines.
His educational career started from BCIC School in Mirpur. From there, he completed his SSC with a GPA of 5, then completed his HSC from Bir Shrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College. Later, he got admitted to Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), where he achieved a CGPA of 3.57. Then, on a participatory scholarship, he went to Valencia College in the United States. There, he achieved a GPA of 4.00 and was placed in the President’s Honor List.
His Fascination with Microsoft began in Seventh Grade
In 2014, in seventh grade, Asif attended an app development workshop organized by Microsoft Bangladesh. It was there that he set his goal,
“একদিন আমিও Microsoft Student Partner হব।”
Translation: “One day, I will also become a Microsoft Student Partner.”
This dream became a reality in 2020, when he was selected as a Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador (MLSA) in his second year of BUP. His journey with the global tech community began.
BUP to Microsoft: Combining Talent and Leadership
At BUP, he founded the MLSA Chapter, which connected him to the tech industry in Florida, Atlanta, and Washington, USA. He built a strong portfolio by working on various internships and projects. Finally, in August 2023, he was hired as a Technical Support Engineer at Microsoft. Within just two months, he was promoted to become the Technical Lead of the Microsoft 365 team.
A few days later, when the company was looking for a suitable candidate for the Operations Lead position during a restructuring, Asif seized the opportunity with his leadership qualities, technical skills, and global experience. In just 3 months, he took Microsoft 365 Advisory Operations from the US to the global level.
Key Role in the Copilot Project
When Microsoft Copilot project was launched in 2024, Asif was a key part of its technical planning and customer strategy design. He used machine learning to gather real-time feedback from customer interactions to demonstrate how Copilot could help drive business decisions. His product-led strategy was so successful that it is now being scaled globally.

“It’s not CGPA, it’s work skills that matter”— Asifuzzaman’s message
Many students have a question in their minds, is it possible to get a job in a big company if you have a low CGPA?
Asif says,
“না, যদি আপনি দেখাতে পারেন আপনি কী বানিয়েছেন। আপনি যদি হ্যাকাথন, প্রজেক্ট আর বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতায় দক্ষ হন, তাহলে CGPA তেমন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নয়—বিশেষ করে টেকনিক্যাল বা ইন্ডাস্ট্রি-ভিত্তিক রোলে।”
Translation: “No, if you can prove what you’ve built. If you have the skills of hackathons, projects, and real-world experience, CGPA is not a big barrier—especially in technology-based careers.”
In the modern tech world, not only software engineering, but operations, product management, strategy—everything is important. Asif said,
“তুমি যদি নিজের স্ট্রেন্থ চিনতে পারো, তাহলে নিজের জন্য সঠিক পথ খুঁজে নিতে পারবে।”
Translation:“If you can recognize your strengths, you can find the right path for yourself.”
Mohammad Asifuzzaman’s story is not just a success story of one person, it is a beacon of light for thousands of young people. With hard work, planning, and courage, even from the streets of Mirpur, one can reach the top of one of the world’s best technology companies.
