Bangladesh Win over Turkmenistan 7-0 to Storm into AFC Women’s Asian Cup Final Round

Bangladesh Win over Turkmenistan

Bangladesh women’s football team wrapped up their AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers in style, crushing Turkmenistan 7-0 to top Group C with a perfect 9 points from three matches. The girls in red and green had already secured qualification for the final round but ended the campaign with a statement victory.

Bangladesh conceded only one goal in the entire qualifiers—against hosts Myanmar—showcasing their defensive strength and consistent form. The emphatic win marked their second 7-0 triumph in the qualifiers, the first coming against Bahrain. In their second match, they edged out Myanmar 2-1 to confirm their spot in the final round.

From the very beginning of the match, Bangladesh were relentless. It took only 3 minutes for Swapna Rani to open the scoring. Shamsunnahar followed up with two quick goals in the 6th and 13th minutes. Between the 16th and 20th minutes, Monica, Rituporna, and Tahura Khatun added three more. Rituporna sealed the first half with her second goal in the 42nd minute, taking Bangladesh to a commanding 7-0 lead at halftime.

Although the scoring slowed down in the second half, Bangladesh maintained their control and comfortably preserved the scoreline. The victory, however, did not surpass their biggest-ever  win—a 9-0 thrashing of Bhutan in 2010.

The final round of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup will be held in Australia in March next year. If Bangladesh can finish among the top six teams, they will edge closer to a dream qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. With star performers like Rituporna and Tahura leading the charge, Bangladesh’s dream looks more alive than ever.
