The Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist Shamim Ahmed, one of the most respected figures in the country’s media arena. He breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital on Monday (July 7) morning (ইন্না লিল্লাহি ওয়া ইন্না ইলাইহি রাজিউন).
A press release sent by DCAB said,
দেশের প্রথিতযশা সাংবাদিক, ইউএনবির সাবেক চিফ অব করেসপন্ডেন্টস ও সিটি এডিটর, ওয়াশিংটনে বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসের সাবেক প্রেস মিনিস্টার এবং ডিআরইউ ও ডিক্যাবের সাবেক সভাপতি শামীম আহমদের মৃত্যুতে ডিক্যাব সভাপতি একেএম মঈনুদ্দিন ও সাধারণ সম্পাদক আরিফুজ্জামান মামুন গভীর শোক ও দুঃখ প্রকাশ করেছেন।
Translation: DCAB President AKM Moinuddin and General Secretary Arifuzzaman Mamun have expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Shamim Ahmed, a renowned journalist of the country, former Chief of Correspondents and City Editor of UNB, former Press Minister of the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, and former President of DRU and DCAB.

In their condolence message, they said,
শামীম আহমদ ছিলেন দেশের সাংবাদিকতা অঙ্গনের এক উজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্র।পেশাগত সততা, নিষ্ঠা ও নেতৃত্বগুণে তিনি সাংবাদিকদের জন্য এক অনুকরণীয় ব্যক্তিত্ব হয়ে উঠেছিলেন। তিনি শুধু একজন দক্ষ সাংবাদিকই নন, ছিলেন একাধারে সংগঠক, অভিভাবক এবং বন্ধু। তার মৃত্যুতে আমরা একজন অভিজ্ঞ, প্রজ্ঞাবান ও সম্মানিত সহকর্মীকে হারালাম, যিনি ডিক্যাব-এর কার্যক্রমে সব সময় নিবেদিতভাবে যুক্ত ছিলেন এবং সংগঠনের উন্নয়নে অসামান্য ভূমিকা রেখেছেন।
Translation: Shamim Ahmed was a shining star in the country’s journalism arena. With his professional integrity, dedication and leadership qualities, he became an exemplary figure for journalists. He was not only a skilled journalist, but also an organizer, guardian and friend. In his death, we lost an experienced, wise and respected colleague, who was always dedicatedly involved in the activities of DCAB and played an outstanding role in the development of the organization.
