Two Students Die After Being Swept Away in Mirsharai Hill Stream

Two students tragically died after being swept away by strong currents while hiking in a hilly stream trail in Mirsharai, Chattogram. The incident happened during a trip to the Melkhum Trail area in the South Sona Pahar region of Jorarganj Union.

The deceased are:

  • Ibrahim Hridoy (22) from Dhanialapara, Jatrabari, Dhaka

  • Aminul Islam (20) from Napiter Char village, Dhemsha Union, Satkania, Chattogram

Both were students at Feni Polytechnic Institute.

What Happened?

According to injured survivor Mohammad Sayem, a group of students went on a trip to Melkhum Trail on Tuesday around 11 AM. In the afternoon, heavy rain hit the area, and Ibrahim and Aminul got separated from the group. Sayem said they also got lost and had to spend the entire night stranded in the hilly area.

The next morning, their friends contacted the fire service, and a rescue operation was launched. Firefighters recovered the bodies of Ibrahim and Aminul and rescued three injured students, who were immediately taken to Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex.

Medical Update

Dr. Raju Singh, a doctor at the health complex, said,

“Three injured students were brought in. They are physically and mentally traumatized, and we are giving them proper treatment.”

Police Confirmation

Officer-in-Charge Halim of Jorarganj Police Station confirmed to the media that the fire service team recovered the two dead bodies from the site.

“The bodies will be taken to Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex,” he said.
