A man named Mohammad Sohag, 40, was beaten and hacked to death near Mitford Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon (9 July). The incident is linked to a conflict over control of the scrap business in the Mitford area.
The attack took place around 5:30 PM near Gate No. 3 of Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital. According to police, Sohag was assaulted and attacked with sharp weapons by a group of men in front of bystanders.
Victim’s Background
Sohag was involved in the scrap business and originally from Barishal. He was living in Keraniganj, a suburb of Dhaka.

Reason Behind the Attack
Police said that the incident happened due to a long-standing rivalry over control of the scrap trading area near Mitford Road’s Bhangeri Patti (scrap market).
Those involved in the attack have been named as Titu, Monir, Apu Das, Moin, and several unidentified associates.
What Police Said
Md Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the killing. He said:
“We have arrested one person in connection with the killing. Our team is conducting drives to catch the others.”
Dead Body Sent for Postmortem
Sohag’s body has been kept at the Mitford Hospital morgue for postmortem examination as part of the legal process.
