JNU Chatra Dal Leader Resigns Over BNP’s Countrywide Scandals

Parvez Rana Pranto, an organizing member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) affiliated Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) Jagannath University (JNU) branch, has resigned from his position, citing “personal reasons” and expressing deep dissatisfaction with “unethical actions” of party leaders and activists.

In a social media post, Pranto, who had been involved with the student organization since his first year of university, stated, “For personal reasons, I am stepping down from the ‘organizing member’ post of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal, Jagannath University branch advisory committee.”

He further elaborated on his decision, saying, “I have received a lot of love from the organization over these eight years. I express my gratitude to all of them. Recently, I feel mentally uncomfortable due to the unethical actions of many leaders and activists of Chatra Dal and BNP’s associate organizations. Sometimes, even if organizational steps are taken, in my opinion, they are not enough.”

Pranto concluded his statement with a hopeful note, “I hope that Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal and other associate organizations of BNP will overcome the anarchy and become completely student-friendly and public-friendly.”

While Pranto’s post vaguely refers to “unethical actions,” his resignation comes amidst a period of scrutiny and criticism directed at the BNP and its various wings over alleged nationwide scandals and internal disarray. His public statement highlights growing discontent within the student front of the opposition party.
