Nahid Islam the leader of the National Citizens Party (NCP) has announced that a new mass movement is about to emerge in Bangladesh, aimed at rooting out corrupt individuals and extortionists. Speaking as the chief guest at a street rally held at the Central Eidgah intersection in Jessore on Friday afternoon, he made several strong remarks against the current political and institutional structure.
“A new movement is forming soon. It will be against the corrupt and the extortionists. Just like we won during the July movement, we will win this one too,” Nahid declared to the crowd. Blaming corruption and extortion for obstructing the country’s reform process, he said, “We are not afraid of these corrupt people, and neither should you be.”
Responding to allegations that the NCP is an anti-election group, Nahid stated, “We want justice, we want reforms, and we want fair elections. The people of this country will not accept any election without justice and reforms. Those who are pushing for elections without these are actually conspiring to delay them.”
He also criticized the long-standing trend of politicizing state institutions, saying, “Whoever has come to power in Bangladesh has politicized the institutions. Hasina has completely politicized them over the past 16 years. This time, we will not let that happen.”

Addressing issues of enforced disappearances, Nahid said, “The military should focus on protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty. We do not want them to be involved in enforced disappearances in any way.”
He further added, “The most severe politicization has taken place in the Election Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission. These two must be restructured with neutral appointments. If the army, police, Election Commission, and ACC are not fixed, the country will fall into darkness—and we will not let that happen.”
During the event, party activists chanted slogans against corruption and called for united participation in the upcoming movement.
