The man who was recently murdered near Mitford Hospital in Dhaka — Chand Mia, also known as Sohag — was not just a businessman, but also a supporter and activist of BNP.
This information was shared by Zulkarnain Sayer, an investigative journalist from Al Jazeera.
Journalist Reveals Details on Facebook
On Friday night (July 11), Zulkarnain posted on his verified Facebook account, questioning why Sohag is only being described as a businessman and not as a Jubo Dal (BNP’s youth wing) activist. He wrote,
“মিটফোর্ড এলাকায় নৃশংস হত্যাকাণ্ডের শিকার যুবদল কর্মী ‘চাঁদ মিয়া ওরফে সোহাগ’কে কেবল ব্যবসায়ী হিসেবেই প্রচার করা হচ্ছে কেন?”
“Why is Sohag, who was brutally killed in Mitford, only being described as a businessman when he was a Jubo Dal activist?”

No Statement Yet from BNP or Jubo Dal
Zulkarnain also raised a serious question — why BNP or Jubo Dal has not issued any official statement or press release about the murder, even though Sohag was involved in their politics.
“বিএনপি বা যুবদল কেউই এখনো পর্যন্ত তাদের নিজ কর্মীর এহেন হত্যাকাণ্ডের কোন রকমের প্রেস রিলিজ কেন ইস্যু করেনি?”
“Why haven’t BNP or Jubo Dal released any official statement about the murder of one of their own members?”
Sohag Seen on BNP Event Stage
In the same post, Zulkarnain also shared a photo of Sohag taken on December 23, 2024, during a Jubo Dal workers’ meeting in Ward 30, Chawkbazar. Sohag was seen on stage (marked with a red circle) as part of the event.
Brutal Killing Shocked the Area
Earlier, on July 9, Sohag was attacked with a stone and killed in front of Gate No. 3 of Mitford Hospital.
The murder was described as brutal and inhumane, sparking outrage in the local community.
