Private University Students Called for Nationwide Protests Against Violence and Extortion

Students from different private universities across Bangladesh have called for nationwide protests against recent incidents of extortion and violence. The protests are scheduled to begin today, Saturday, 12 July 2025, in various parts of the country, including Dhaka, Sylhet, and Chattogram.

Announcement Made by PUSAB

The protest plan was shared by the student organization Private University Students’ Alliance of Bangladesh (PUSAB) through their official Facebook page on Saturday morning.

According to the post, the students are organizing the protests to raise their voices against the rise in criminal activities, threats, and extortion in and around university campuses.

Protest Locations in Dhaka

In Dhaka, the protests will take place in several major areas including:

  • Rampura Bridge

  • Bashundhara Gate

  • Uttara BNS (Bangladesh Navy School area)

  • Khegan area in Ashulia

  • In front of BRAC University, North South University, and IUB (Independent University, Bangladesh)

  • Daffodil University area

  • Mirpur-10

  • Northern University area

  • Southeast University area

  • Uttara University area

The demonstrations in these areas will begin on time as scheduled, according to the organizers.

Protests Outside Dhaka

Outside the capital, students will also gather in key city locations:

  • In Sylhet, the protest will take place at the Central Shaheed Minar at 6:00 PM

  • In Chattogram, students will gather at New Market area at 3:00 PM

Why the Students Are Protesting

Organizers from PUSAB stated that the main reason behind this movement is to protest against the recent increase in criminal activities in the education sector. They mentioned growing concerns about threats, extortion, and violence in and around university campuses that are affecting students’ safety and mental peace.

This protest is being seen as a strong message from students demanding a safe, peaceful, and education-friendly environment in the country.
