A housewife named Sonali Khatun (38) was killed in a horrific domestic violence incident in Harishpur village of Shalikha upazila of Magura. The tragic murder took place around 7 am on Saturday. The deceased’s husband, Mizanur Rahman, has been accused in the incident.
According to police and local sources,
মিজানুর রহমান দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানে রাজমিস্ত্রির কাজ করেন। শনিবার ভোরে তিনি চট্টগ্রাম থেকে নিজ গ্রামের বাড়িতে আসেন। তখন বাড়িতে তার স্ত্রী ও ১০ বছর বয়সী মেয়ে ছিল। বাড়িতে এসে স্ত্রীকে ফোন করলে তিনি সাড়া দেননি। এরপর মিজানুর শাবল দিয়ে ঘরের দরজা ভেঙে ভেতরে ঢোকেন এবং স্ত্রীকে শাবল দিয়ে মাথায় আঘাত করেন। এতে ঘটনাস্থলেই সোনালীর মৃত্যু হয়।
Translation: Mizanur Rahman works as a mason in various parts of the country. He returned to his village home from Chittagong early on Saturday morning. His wife and 10-year-old daughter were at home at the time. When he called his wife when he got home, she did not answer. Mizanur then broke down the door of the house with a hatchet and hit his wife on the head with the hatchet. Sonali died on the spot.

Police quoted the victim’s daughter as saying,
মিজানুর শাবল দিয়ে স্ত্রীর মাথায় একবার আঘাত করেন। ঘটনার পর তিনি পালিয়ে যান।
Translation: Mizanur hit his wife on the head once with his sword. He fled after the incident.
Shalikha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Oli Mia said,
“নিহতের মরদেহ ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য মাগুরার ২৫০ শয্যাবিশিষ্ট হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়েছে। হত্যায় ব্যবহৃত রক্তমাখা শাবল জব্দ করা হয়েছে। অভিযুক্ত ব্যক্তিকে ধরতে পুলিশ অভিযান শুরু করেছে।”
Translation: “The body of the deceased has been sent to the 250-bed hospital in Magura for autopsy. The blood-stained knife used in the murder has been seized. The police have launched an operation to arrest the accused.”
