BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has thrown a bold challenge to the National Citizen Party (NCP), saying, “They think millions have joined them. Someone even claimed they achieved in 8 minutes what BNP couldn’t in 17 years. I challenge them, let’s see if they can stand in front for even five minutes.”

He made these remarks Thursday afternoon at a member recruitment and renewal event organized by Demra Thana BNP in Sarulia, Demra, for its 2025 campaign.

Reaffirming BNP’s commitment to peaceful democratic change, Ishraque said,

“We have been patient and haven’t retaliated. But if our leader gives the command, we can surround the Secretariat and bring down the government in just 10 minutes. Still, we don’t want that. We believe in democracy and want change through people’s votes.”

Highlighting the importance of BNP’s return to power, he said, “BNP is a historical party. We never bow down to anyone. Our only accountability is to the common people. In the upcoming election, people will put their faith in the paddy sheaf symbol. To overcome today’s political crisis, economic fragility, foreign policy weakness, and moral decay BNP must come to power.”

Criticizing the Election Commission, he said, “This commission is doing nothing but wasting time. We won’t trust anything until the election is over.”

Speaking on recent protests over the mayoral issue, Ishraque added, “We’ve been on the streets for 40 days, but the government showed no sympathy. This movement forced them to go to London and sit for talks with our leader.”

Regarding new member enrollment, he emphasized, “In this campaign, not only must we exclude our political opponents like the Awami League, but also all terrorists, drug dealers, extortionists, and armed criminals. Anyone who harasses people using a party name must not be accepted as a member.”
