A tragic incident occurred in Pabna’s Ishwardi on Monday, as a local female BNP leader collapsed and died while chanting slogans at a political reception program. The victim, identified as Amena Khatun, was 45 years old and served as the president of the BNP’s women’s wing in Salimpur Union.
She was attending a program organized to welcome Shariful Islam Tuhin, former chairman of Dashuria Union Parishad, who had recently been released from jail after 20 years.

Reception Rally Turns Tragic
The event took place around 2 PM at the old bus terminal in Ishwardi town. Hundreds of BNP activists, including many women under Amena Khatun’s leadership, gathered to greet Shariful Islam upon his return.
As the crowd raised slogans, witnesses said Amena suddenly became dizzy and collapsed to the ground. She was rushed to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Cause of Death: Sudden Stroke Suspected
Police confirmed that her death was likely caused by a sudden stroke or cardiac arrest. Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Police Station, A S M Abdun Nur, stated,
“We have been informed that she died of a stroke. Her family has taken the body home, and no complaints have been filed regarding the incident.”
A Leader Remembered
Amena Khatun was a respected figure within the BNP’s local women’s wing. Her sudden death during a moment of political celebration has deeply shocked her fellow party members and supporters.
