Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain: Freeing Campuses from Politics Will Bring Back a Bright Future for Education

Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain

Religious Affairs Advisor Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain has said that if educational institutions can be freed from political thuggery, a healthy and proper environment for education and learning will return.

He stated, “Nowhere else in the world does party politics exist within educational institutions. But in our country, it is present in universities. To maintain the quality and environment of education, the politics of thuggery in these institutions must end.”

He made these remarks as the chief guest at an event held on Monday (July 14) at 9:30 PM at the July Uprising Memorial Hall of Chittagong Press Club. The occasion was the Silver Jubilee Celebration, Book Unveiling, and Reception Ceremony of the Department of Islamic History and Culture of the University of Chittagong (CU).

Reminiscing about his university days, the advisor said, “I have always maintained a connection with the university. Even now, whenever I have the time, I feel like going back to the familiar Shahjalal Hall, having casual chats, and sipping tea at the roadside stalls. Spending the evening with my former classmates today has truly uplifted my spirit.”

The advisor also added, “In doctoral theses at universities in other countries, up to 25% of references can be cited from other scholars. But in our country, the percentage is much higher, which hampers the quality of research.”

The event was presided over by Muhammad Shawkat Ali Noor, President of the CU Department of Islamic History and Culture Alumni Association. Special guests included Professor Dr. Md. Shamim Uddin Khan, CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), and Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration).

Retired Professor Dr. Shah Mohammad Shafiq Ullah from the Department of Islamic History and Culture delivered a speech as an honored guest.

The event was attended by former and current students of the CU Department of Islamic History and Culture, along with journalists from both print and electronic media.
