A special operation is currently ongoing in Gopalganj following violent incidents surrounding the rally of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP). In response to the unrest, the local administration imposed a curfew from Wednesday 8 PM, which will remain in effect until Thursday 6 PM.
14 Arrested During Operation
Despite the curfew, a joint force operation was launched on Wednesday night. So far, 14 individuals have been detained and handed over to Gopalganj Sadar Police Station. However, no formal cases have been filed against them yet, according to OC Mir Md. Sajedur Rahman.
City Shuts Down Under Curfew
Since the curfew began, transportation has come to a standstill. Only a few rickshaws are seen occasionally on the roads, while shops and businesses remain closed. Most people are staying indoors unless it is absolutely necessary to go out.

Streets Silent, Security Visible at Jail
On Thursday morning, Gopalganj town remained completely silent. Markets and roads were almost empty, and law enforcement patrols were not visible in most areas. However, security around the district jail has been tightened, and officers are stationed there to ensure safety.
Situation ‘Under Control’ says Police
According to police sources, the law-and-order situation is now under control. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
