Following the recent violence surrounding the NCP’s events in Gopalganj, party leader Nahid Islam made a fiery statement through a Facebook post, expressing frustration with the current administration and promising continued political resistance.
“We Have Made Our Position on Gopalganj Very Clear” — Nahid Islam
In his statement, Nahid Islam accused the ruling party of long-standing political discrimination and of manipulating the security apparatus to suppress opposition voices.
“গোপালগঞ্জ নিয়ে আমাদের অবস্থান গতকালের বক্তব্যেই পরিষ্কার বলা হয়েছে। পুরা বাংলাদেশের প্রতি আমাদের যে কমিটমেন্ট গোপালগঞ্জের প্রতিও আমাদের সে কমিটমেন্ট।”
“Our stance on Gopalganj was made clear in yesterday’s speech. The commitment we hold for the entire country, we equally hold for Gopalganj.”
Allegation of Attack on Peaceful Program
The NCP leader claimed their pre-declared peaceful program was met with an attack by what he referred to as “Mujibist terrorists,” drawing a comparison with previous alleged violent crackdowns.
“আমরা যুদ্ধের আহ্বান নিয়ে যাই নাই… মুজিববাদী সন্ত্রাসীরা পরিকল্পিতভাবে হত্যার উদ্দেশ্য সশস্ত্র হামলা চালায় আমাদের উপরে।”
“We did not go to wage war… Mujibist terrorists launched a planned attack on us with the intent to kill.”
He added that they conducted only a small gathering, not a full procession, and were attacked on their way out after the event had ended peacefully.

Strong Criticism of Government and Security Forces
Nahid Islam strongly criticized the administration, claiming that many involved in the violence were either not arrested or easily secured bail. He also alleged corruption and partisan behavior within the law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
“প্রশাসনের বিভিন্ন স্তরে ঘাপটি মেরে আছে ফ্যাসিবাদের দোসর এবং দূর্নীতিবাজ কর্মকর্তা যাদেরকে টাকা দিয়ে কিনে ফেলা যায়।”
“In every level of administration, fascist collaborators and corrupt officials hide—people who can be bought with money.”
Pledge to Return to Gopalganj
The NCP leader ended his statement with a powerful declaration of resistance, promising to return to Gopalganj and expand their movement throughout the district.
“আমরা আবারো গোপালগঞ্জে যাবো। আমরা জীবিত থাকলে গোপালগঞ্জের প্রত্যেকটা উপজেলায় প্রত্যেকটা গ্রামে কর্মসূচি করবো। গোপালগঞ্জের প্রতিটা ঘরে ঘরে জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানের পতাকা উড়বে। গোপালগঞ্জ মুজিববাদীদের হবে না, বাংলাদেশপন্থীদের হবে।”
“We will return to Gopalganj. If we remain alive, we will organize programs in every upazila and every village of Gopalganj. The flag of the July uprising will fly in every house. Gopalganj will not belong to the Mujibists, it will belong to the patriots of Bangladesh.”
Call for Justice and Nationwide Operation
Nahid Islam demanded a proper investigation into the deaths and attacks and called for arrests based on specific evidence—not just in Gopalganj, but across the country.
“শুধু গোপালগঞ্জ নয় সারাদেশে এ গ্রেফতার অভিযান চালাতে হবে।”
“The arrest drive should not be limited to Gopalganj—this must be carried out across the entire country.”
Tribute to the Fallen and Message of Gratitude
He paid tribute to those who lost their lives and acknowledged those who protested the attacks:
“যারা গতকালের হামলার প্রতিবাদ জানিয়েছেন, রাস্তায় নেমেছেন তাদের প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা। ফরিদপুরে পদযাত্রায় দেখা হবে।”
“Gratitude to those who raised their voices and came to the streets in protest. See you at the rally in Faridpur.”
