Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that a conspiracy has begun to prevent the parliamentary elections scheduled for February. He said that a planned conspiracy is underway to prevent the transition to democracy, against which everyone must be vigilant.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the Chhatra Dal memorial meeting organized in memory of the martyred students of the July Movement at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University on Thursday afternoon.
He said,
পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে বিএনপির মতো এত ত্যাগ কেউ স্বীকার করেছে কী না তা জানা নেই। ২০ হাজার নেতাকর্মীকে বিচার বর্হিভূতভাবে হত্যা করা হয়েছে। এতকিছুর পরও বিএনপি মাথা উচু করে দাঁড়িয়েছে। একবারের জন্যও ফ্যাসিবাদের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই থামায়নি।
Translation: “It is not known whether anyone in the history of the world has made so many sacrifices as BNP. 20,000 leaders and activists have been extrajudicially killed. Despite all this, BNP has stood tall. It has not stopped fighting against fascism even once.”
This BNP leader said,
বাংলাদেশের মানুষ লড়াই করে বেঁচে থাকে। এখন যারা জুলাইয়ের কৃতিত্ব নিয়ে কথা বলছেন, এককভাবে দাবি করছেন, আসলে এই আন্দোলনের কৃতিত্ব জনগণের। নতুন বাংলাদেশ বিনির্মাণের জন্য আজকে যে সুযোগ সৃষ্টি হয়েছে তা যেন বিফলে না যায়। সুযোগ সৃষ্টি হলেও ষড়যন্ত্র থেমে নেই। আমাদের এই সুযোগ কাজে লাগাতে হবে।
Translation: The people of Bangladesh survive by fighting. Now those who are talking about the achievements of July are claiming that in fact the achievements of this movement belong to the people. The opportunity that has been created today for building a new Bangladesh should not go to waste. Even though the opportunity has been created, the conspiracies do not stop. We have to utilize this opportunity.
Mirza Fakhrul said,
গণতন্ত্রের যেন উত্তরণ না ঘটে সেজন্য পরিকল্পিতভাবে কাজ শুরু হয়েছে। সোশাল মিডিয়ায় বিএনপি নেতাদের নিয়ে কুরুচিপূর্ণ বক্তব্য দেয়া হচ্ছে। তারেক রহমানের ভয়ে তারা এসব করছে। সংগ্রাম শেষ হয়ে যায়নি। এরা ফাঁদ পাতা হচ্ছে, কিন্তু আমরা তাদের পাতা ফাঁদে পা দেবো না। গণতন্ত্রের উত্তরণের পথ বাঁধাগ্রস্ত করতেই এমনটা অরা হচ্ছে বলেও মন্তব্য করেন তিনি।
Translation: “Planned work has started to prevent the transition of democracy. Ugly statements are being made about BNP leaders on social media. They are doing all this out of fear of Tarique Rahman. The struggle is not over. They are being trapped, but we will not fall into their trap. He also commented that such aura is being created to obstruct the path of the transition of democracy.”
He further said,
ধৈর্যের সাথে পরিস্থিতি মোকাবেলা করতে হবে। মূলত ফেব্রুয়ারিতে নির্বাচনের যেন না হয়, সেই জন্য ষড়যন্ত্র শুরু হয়েছে। ঘোষিত সময়ের মধ্যেই নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হবে বলেও মন্তব্য করেন তিনি।
Translation: The situation must be faced with patience. Basically, a conspiracy has started to prevent the elections from being held in February. He also commented that the elections will be held within the announced time.
The memorial service was attended by central leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student organization activists and students of Dhaka University. The speakers paid deep respect to the martyrs of the July Movement in remembrance of their sacrifice and emphasized the importance of a united movement to re-establish democratic principles in the country.
