Indian authorities have given travel documents to former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina. On Wednesday (October 9), Sheikh Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana, close to the family and an influential leader of the UK Awami League, confirmed this information to reporters on condition of anonymity. Speaking to reporters, the Awami League leader said, “She can travel to any country in the world with the travel document given to the leader (Sheikh Hasina) by the Indian government.” He said, “Sheikh Hasina is being given round-the-clock security in India.” His sister Sheikh Rehana is also staying there. However, Sheikh Hasina will stay in India even if she gets the travel document. He has no plans to travel outside India anytime soon.’ Asylum seekers are usually given a travel document for that country. In response to the question whether Sheikh Hasina has taken political asylum in India, the UK Awami League leader said that considering the importance of Sheikh Hasina, India has made special arrangements for her. Meanwhile, the Indian government has not confirmed whether Sheikh Hasina has been handed a ‘travel document’ or not. However, a top official from India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated, “Wait for our ministry’s next briefing on this issue.” Ask questions about what the representative says! However, a former Indian ambassador told reporters, “If India has really given travel documents to Sheikh Hasina, I will not be surprised at all.” Because this is the most natural and expected step in this situation. He is also explaining, “The hundreds of thousands of Tibetan refugees who live in various places including McLeodganj in India, but most of them do not have Indian passports.” Rather, they travel to different countries of the world with this type of travel document (abbreviated as ‘TD’). Additionally, he stated, “It is only natural that Sheikh Hasina must travel outside of India to meet with the party’s leaders and workers who are dispersed around the world due to political obligations.” Realizing that reality, if India gives him TD or IC, it is not surprising.
