BNP to Support July Uprising Heroes Families with Exclusive Fund

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will set up a fund to help the families of those who were injured or killed during the July uprising, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today (20 July).

Speaking at an event at the mausoleum of late president Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Mirza Fakhrul said, “I said this yesterday and I’m saying it again today — elections will take place. Who wins or loses is less important. Today, I will ask our acting chairman to start a party fund to support the families of those injured or killed.”

He also said members of the “Amra BNP Poribar” group have already stood with the families affected by the July movement.

Remembering the pain of a mother who lost her son in the July movement, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The boy we hoped for our future was taken away from us. He was shot brutally, thrown onto a van without checking if he was still alive, with other bodies piled on top, and then the van was set on fire.”

“Just think, this is a free country we fought for in 1971. But now, the police, paid by our taxes, are killing and burning our children. It’s more than cruel; it’s savage,” he added.

Condemning former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Fakhrul said, “Hasina can never be forgiven for such cruelty and inhuman acts. She is a shame to humanity. She is a shame to all mothers.”

“Our first Duty will be to bring her and others like her to justice. Our second job is to help the families of the martyrs and provide better medical care and recovery support for the injured. If we don’t do this, future generations of this country will not forgive us,” Fakhrul added.

the party’s commitment to justice and support for the victims of the July uprising. By establishing a dedicated fund, BNP aims to stand firmly with the families of those who sacrificed their lives or suffered injuries, while demanding accountability for the injustices they faced.

This initiative reflects the party’s promise to build a just and compassionate society that honors its heroes and safeguards the future of Bangladesh.
