Crime in Dhaka Now Comes as a ‘Package Deal’ like Mugging
In Dhaka, street crimes have taken a new turn with muggings now being offered as part of a “package deal.” A covert investigation has revealed a dangerous mugging syndicate that rents out machetes and motorbikes, and even provides advance money for bail if a member is arrested.
Recently, a shocking mugging incident in Shyamoli went viral through a video, prompting police investigation. The footage showed a man being robbed at machete-point — his bag, mobile phone, even his T-shirt and shoes were forcibly taken.
Mastermind Kabir Arrested- Weapons and Bike Seized
In connection with this incident, the Detective Branch (DB) arrested Kabir, Aslam, and Al Amin. Among them, Kabir has been identified as the ringleader of the entire gang. Police also recovered the motorbike and machete used in the robbery.
According to DB sources, this gang operates by renting weapons and bikes in advance to street-level muggers. After a robbery, the stolen items must be sold back to the ringleaders. If a member is arrested, the gang even provides advance funds as “dadon” (a loan-like pre-payment) to cover bail expenses so the person can quickly return to operations.

Payment System: Pay After the Robbery
Rent for machetes and bikes isn’t paid upfront. The cost is determined after the robbery, based on the value of stolen items. Furthermore, the looted goods must be sold only to designated gang leaders, not to anyone else.
Active Daily Across Dhaka
Every day, in different parts of the capital, this gang rents out weapons and vehicles to small-time muggers. If someone gets arrested, the gang covers bail expenses through “dadon,” which must later be repaid through further robberies.
The DB says this is the first time they’ve discovered such a system where “dadon” is used specifically for street crime operations. It poses a new and serious threat to Dhaka’s public safety.
