Squadron Leader Taukir’s First Solo Flight Ends in Tragedy

Squadron Leader Taukir

A Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Monday (21 July), leaving at least three people dead and over 25 injured, most of whom have been admitted to the National Burn Unit in critical condition.

The crash occurred near Milestone School and College, where the aircraft went down just moments after takeoff. Military personnel, BGB members, and the Fire Service rushed to the scene immediately to begin rescue operations. Civilians also joined in to help.

It Was Taukir’s First Solo Flight

The pilot of the crashed aircraft was Flight Lieutenant Taukir Islam Sagor. According to an Air Force official speaking, this tragic flight was Taukir’s first-ever solo mission.

“তৌকিরের আজ প্রথম একক মিশন ছিল, একটু আগে তিনি ডুয়াল ফ্লাইট পরিচালনা করেছেন।”
“Today was Taukir’s first solo mission. Just before this, he completed a dual flight,” the officer said.

Technical Failure Moments After Takeoff

The official revealed that the aircraft showed no proper reaction after takeoff, and eventually stalled, making it uncontrollable for the pilot.

“এয়ারক্রাফট কোন রিঅ্যাক্ট করছিল না… তখন তার কন্ট্রোলে ছিল না।”
“The aircraft wasn’t responding… it was no longer under his control.”

Couldn’t Eject—Too Low for Escape

Though the control tower instructed Taukir to eject from the jet, the flight altitude was too low for a safe ejection.

“ইজেক্ট করা পসিবলও ছিল না… তিনি চেষ্টা করছিলেন যে, অন্যভাবে কিছু করা যায় কি না।”
“Ejecting wasn’t possible… he was trying to manage the situation in another way.”

Pilot Tried to Avoid Civilian Area

Taukir reportedly attempted to crash-land the plane in an open field in Diabari to avoid populated areas but failed. The jet bounced and ultimately crashed into the Milestone campus.

“ফ্ল্যাইটটি দিয়াবাড়ির ফাঁকা স্থানে ফেলতে চেয়েছিলেন… কিন্তু পারেননি।”
“He wanted to crash the jet in an empty field at Diabari… but couldn’t.”

Taukir Was Alive After the Crash

Initially, Taukir was found alive with a pulse and was airlifted via MI-17 helicopter to CMH (Combined Military Hospital) in critical condition. Sadly, he passed away shortly after.

“শুরুতে তৌকির বেঁচে ছিলেন; তার পালস পাওয়া গিয়েছিল।”
“Taukir was alive at first; he had a pulse.”

Friend’s Heartfelt Plea on Facebook

Taukir’s friend and online activist Syed Abdullah wrote on Facebook during the initial confusion:

“তৌকির এখনও মারা যায় নাই… সবার কাছে বিনীত অনুরোধ, দোয়া করতে থাকেন।”
“Taukir hasn’t passed away yet… I humbly ask everyone to keep praying for him.”

Witnesses Shocked by Fire and Chaos

According to police, the plane made a loud sound when it crashed near Milestone School, immediately bursting into flames. The impact spread panic among locals and students. Firefighters and army personnel rescued several injured people from the scene.

“বিকট শব্দে একটি বিমান বিধ্বস্ত হয়েছে… আগুন ধরে যায়।”
“A loud crash was heard… and the plane burst into flames.”

Many students and locals were seen running for cover. Immediate rescue efforts were led by the fire service, army, and bystanders.
