On Tuesday afternoon, students from various educational institutions gathered outside the Secretariat in Dhaka demanding the resignation of the Education Adviser and the Secretary. The students were protesting against the recent plane crash tragedy at Milestone School and College in Uttara.
Protest Turns Violent at Secretariat Gate
Around 2:30 pm, the students started demonstrating in front of the main gate of the Secretariat. All entrances to the Secretariat were closed, and traffic came to a halt around the area.
At approximately 3:40 pm, some students forcefully entered the Secretariat through Gate No. 1 while shouting slogans calling the authorities “ভুয়া ভুয়া” (Fake! Fake!).

Clash Erupts Between Students and Law Enforcement
Once inside, the students faced a strong response from police and army personnel. Law enforcement used batons, sound grenades, and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. A chase between the two sides followed.
Several law enforcement officers were also injured by stones thrown by the students during the clashes. Vehicles in the Secretariat area were damaged as well.
Medical Aid Provided to Injured Students
At least 80 students injured in the clash were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
Education Secretary Siddiq Zubair Withdrawn
During the unrest, at 3:53 pm, Information Adviser Mahfuz Alam announced on Facebook:
“শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয়ের সিনিয়র সচিব সিদ্দিক জুবাইরকে প্রত্যাহার করা হয়েছে।”
“Senior Secretary of the Education Ministry Siddiq Zubair has been withdrawn.”

The students’ protests intensified after the tragic plane crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, where many students lost their lives. They held the Education Ministry officials responsible and demanded their resignation.
