Another Soul Lost in the Milestone Tragedy

“Father, don’t worry about me, I will get well, InshaAllah” — this is how 15-year-old Mahtab Rahman Bhuiyan comforted his father in his final moments. But right before his father’s eyes, all hope shattered as he finally passed away to the hereafter.
During the accident, a boy who was badly burned was seen running this footage quickly spread on social media. The boy in the video was Mahtab.
He fought for his life for four days. On Thursday (July 24) at 1:50 PM, he passed away while undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.
On Thursday evening around 7 PM, Mahtab’s body was brought from Dhaka to their village home in Chulashe, Debidwar Upazila, Comilla. After the funeral prayer at the Eidgah ground of Chulashe-Ukhari market at around 9:45 PM, he was buried next to his elder grandfather’s grave.

The funeral prayer was attended by Debidwar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Abul Hasnat Khan. Imam Lokman Hossain from the local mosque led the prayer.
Mahtab’s father, Minhazur Rahman Bhuiyan, said, “Before his death, my precious son comforted me by saying, ‘Father, don’t worry about me, I will get well, InshaAllah.’ But Allah took him away.”
He was injured in a tragic accident on July 21. That day, a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crashed into the school building of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka.
Mahtab and several others were seriously injured in the incident. Military personnel quickly came forward to rescue the injured. Mahtab was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later, as his condition worsened, he was admitted to the ICU of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. About 70 percent of his body was burned.
He was a seventh-grade student in the English version of Milestone School. His student code number was 1014. Every day, his father personally took him to and from school. At the time of the accident, his father was near the school.
He was the second among three siblings. His elder sister Nabila was a tenth-grade student at Milestone School, and his younger sister Naisar was only 3 years old. The family lived in Uttara, Dhaka.
