Heartbreaking Milestone Tragedy: 13-Year-Old Jarif Farhan Passes Away

Jarif Farhan (13), a student of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, has died from burn injuries sustained in the recent aircraft crash near the institution. His death was confirmed this morning (Saturday, July 26) by Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Residential Surgeon at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

According to the doctor, nearly 40% of Jarif’s body had suffered severe burns, and he was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He succumbed to his injuries at 9:10 a.m. while under treatment.

Jarif was a seventh-grade student at Milestone School and College. His parents are Habibur Rahman and Rasheda Yasmin.

Earlier, on Friday (July 25), two more students—Ayman (10) and Makin (13)—also passed away at the burn institute. Ayman had burns on 45% of his body, while Makin had sustained 70% burns.

As of Saturday morning, the death toll from the crash has risen to 34. Nearly 50 others are still undergoing treatment at seven different hospitals in Dhaka.

The deceased include:

  • 16 at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery,

  • 15 at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH),

  • 1 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH),

  • 1 unidentified victim at Lubana General Hospital and Cardiac Center, and

  • 1 at United Hospital.

This tragic incident continues to cast a dark shadow over the nation as families and communities grieve the devastating loss of young lives.
