Racing, though not widely followed in Bangladesh, has found a flag-bearer in Avik Anwar, who has proudly represented the nation on global tracks for years. However, today (Saturday), the motorsport community was shaken after news broke that Avik was involved in a major crash during Race 1 at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit.
A statement from his verified social media account confirmed the incident.
Saying that Avik’s car was involved in a serious crash during Race 1 at Sepang. He is currently undergoing medical evaluation and treatment at the medical center. Please keep him in your prayers.

Earlier in the day, Avik had shared a hopeful message following his qualifying performance: “I qualified P4 yesterday. It could’ve been better if the car hadn’t suddenly slid at Turn 5 and Turn 6. In Shaa Allah, I’ll fight for a podium tomorrow for Bangladesh!”
Avik Anwar made history as the first Bangladeshi to win an international car race. Despite the sport’s limited popularity and high expenses in Bangladesh, he never backed down.
While studying in Canada, he trained for professional racing and has since faced numerous challenges to proudly raise Bangladesh’s name on the global racing stage.
