On Saturday (26 July), the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, met with the top leaders of 14 political parties and alliances at the state guest house Jamuna in the capital. In the meeting, he delivered an important speech on the preparations for the elections and the recent political situation.
At the beginning of the meeting, a minute of silence and a prayer were held in memory of those who died in the recent plane crash at Milestone School and College.
Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus said,
‘যখনই নির্বাচনের প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে আমরা অগ্রসর হচ্ছি, তখনই নানা ষড়যন্ত্র সামনে আসছে। কিন্তু বাস্তবতা হচ্ছে- কোনো ষড়যন্ত্র করেই গণতান্ত্রিক অগ্রযাত্রাকে বাধাগ্রস্ত করা যাবে না। কারণ, ফ্যাসিবাদ প্রশ্নে সবগুলো গণতান্ত্রিক শক্তির ঐক্য স্পষ্ট।’
Translation: ‘Whenever we are moving forward with preparations for the elections, various conspiracies are coming to the fore. But the reality is that democratic progress cannot be hindered by any conspiracy. Because, the unity of all democratic forces on the issue of fascism is clear.’
Stating that corrupt forces are trying to sabotage the election process by creating chaos, he said that all anti-fascist forces must remain united to resist this evil attempt.

He again said,
‘অভ্যুত্থানের সব শক্তি মিলে একটি সুন্দর নির্বাচন করতে না পারলে এই মস্তবড় সুযোগ আমাদের হাতছাড়া হয়ে যাবে। পরাজিত শক্তি যখনই সুযোগ পাচ্ছে তখনই নানা রকম গন্ডগোল সৃষ্টি করছে। এসব করে তারা দেশের স্বাভাবিক অগ্রযাত্রাকে মারাত্মকভাবে ব্যাহত করছে।’
Translation: “If all the forces of the uprising cannot hold a fair election together, this great opportunity will be lost to us. The defeated forces are creating all kinds of chaos whenever they get the opportunity. By doing all this, they are seriously disrupting the natural progress of the country.”
He further said,
‘অভ্যুত্থানের সব শক্তি মিলে একটি সুন্দর নির্বাচন করতে না পারলে এই মস্তবড় সুযোগ আমাদের হাতছাড়া হয়ে যাবে। পরাজিত শক্তি যখনই সুযোগ পাচ্ছে তখনই নানা রকম গন্ডগোল সৃষ্টি করছে। এসব করে তারা দেশের স্বাভাবিক অগ্রযাত্রাকে মারাত্মকভাবে ব্যাহত করছে।’
Translation: “If all the forces of the coup cannot hold a fair election together, this great opportunity will be lost to us. The defeated forces are creating all kinds of chaos whenever they get the opportunity. By doing this, they are seriously disrupting the natural progress of the country.”
Political leaders participating in the meeting also assured their sincere support in protecting the elections and democracy. Among the leaders present were—
