Nahid Islam, the Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), made a bold and controversial statement on Wednesday night (31 July).
During the July Protest March (জুলাই পদযাত্রা) at Chandramukhi Sub-Lane on the Nabinagar–Chandra Highway in Ashulia, Savar, he said:
“শেখ হাসিনাকে দশবার ফাঁসিতে ঝোলালেও তার অপরাধ আসলে কমবে না।”
“Even if Sheikh Hasina is hanged ten times, it will not reduce her crimes.”
Remembering the Historic Role of Ashulia in the Uprising
Nahid Islam recalled the critical role of Ashulia, Savar, and Baipail during the mass uprisings:
“এই সাভার, এই আশুলিয়া, এই বাইপাইলের পয়েন্টে গণ অভ্যুত্থানের সময় আমাদের ছাত্র জনতা বুক চিতিয়ে লড়াই করেছিল ফ্যাসিস্ট শক্তির বিরুদ্ধে।”
“In Savar, Ashulia, and Baipail, our student activists bravely stood against fascist forces during the people’s uprising.”
He added:
“সাভার আশুলিয়া গণ অভ্যুত্থানের সময় হটস্পট ছিল আন্দোলনে।”
“Savar and Ashulia were hotspots during the uprising.”
He also credited the resistance from surrounding areas like Narayanganj, Jatrabari, Gazipur, and Tongi for encouraging Dhaka’s citizens to join the protests.

Emotional Tribute to Martyred Protesters
Nahid reminded the crowd of the brutal repression during the movement:
“এই সাভার আশুলিয়ায় গণ অভ্যুত্থানের সময় আমরা জানি, কি নির্মমভাবে নির্যাতন চালানো হয়েছিল, গুলি চালানো হয়েছিল, আমার ভাইয়েরা শহীদ হয়েছিল।”
“We know how brutally people were tortured and shot during the uprising in Savar and Ashulia. Our brothers were martyred.”
He mentioned the speech of martyr Sajal’s mother and said:
“যাকে পুড়িয়ে মারা হয়েছিল নির্মমভাবে।”
“He was burned to death in a cruel manner.”
“Awami League Will Never Be Forgiven”
Nahid Islam made strong accusations against the ruling party and their allies:
“ফ্যাসিস্ট স্বৈরাচারী সরকারের দোসররা সারা বাংলাদেশে আমাদের ভাইদের ওপর নিপিড়ন চালিয়েছিল।”
“The allies of the fascist dictatorship tortured our brothers all over Bangladesh.”
He continued:
“বাংলাদেশের মানুষ কোনো দিন ক্ষমা করবে না শেখ হাসিনাকে। কোনো দিন ক্ষমা করবে না আওয়ামী লীগকে। কোনো দিন ক্ষমা করবে না কোনো ধরনের রিফাইন আওয়ামী লীগকে।”
“The people of Bangladesh will never forgive Sheikh Hasina, never forgive the Awami League, not even any rebranded form of the Awami League.”
Future Leadership from Five Upazilas in Dhaka
Nahid expressed hope that future leadership of the country will come from five key upazilas (sub-districts) in Dhaka. He emphasized that these areas have been long deprived and discriminated against.
He said the regions have strong potential for development, especially in industrial growth.
“এই পাঁচটি উপজেলায় অনেক সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে। শিল্পাঞ্চল গড়ে তোলা সম্ভব।”
“These five upazilas have a lot of potential. Industrial zones can be developed here.”
Workers Are the Power Behind People’s Movement
Nahid acknowledged the role of garment and industrial workers in the past uprisings:
“শ্রমিকরাই আমাদের গণ-অভ্যুত্থানে শক্তি জুগিয়েছিলো। রাজপথে বুলেটের সামনে দাঁড়িয়েছিলো।”
“It was the workers who powered our people’s movement. They stood in front of bullets on the streets.”
He promised to fight for fair wages and a corruption-free district:
“আমরা সেই শ্রমিকের নায্যমুজুরির জন্য লড়াই করতে চাই।”
“We want to fight for the fair wages of those workers.”
He added:
“আমরা সাভার-আশুলিয়াসহ পুরো ঢাকা জেলাকে চাঁদামুক্ত, সন্ত্রাসমুক্ত, দুর্নীতিমুক্ত জেলা হিসেবে গড়ে তুলতে চাই।”
“We want to build Savar-Ashulia and all of Dhaka district as a toll-free, terror-free, and corruption-free area.”
July Protest Faced Attacks and Obstruction, Claims NCP
Nahid Islam claimed that their 30-day July Protest March across the country faced multiple conspiracies, obstructions, and attacks.
“আমাদের বিরুদ্ধে নানা ষড়যন্ত্র হয়েছে, আমাদেরকে বিভিন্নভাবে বাধা দেওয়া হয়েছে।”
“We were targeted by many conspiracies and faced various obstructions.”
He alleged that envious groups spread false propaganda because of the huge public support:
“আমাদের পদযাত্রায় যে জনস্রোত নেমে এসেছে সে জনস্রোতে ঈর্ষান্বিত হয়ে আমাদের বিরুদ্ধে অপপ্রচার চালানো হয়েছে।”
“False propaganda was spread against us out of jealousy for the massive public support we received.”
He concluded with a strong message of confidence:
“ইনশাল্লাহ আগামীর বাংলাদেশে, আগামীর ঢাকাতে এনসিপির দিকে এই জনস্রোত থামানো যাবে না।”
“Insha’Allah, in the future Bangladesh and future Dhaka, this tide of support for NCP cannot be stopped.”

Late Start, Heavy Security
Although the rally was scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM, central leaders arrived around 9:00 PM. From early evening, hundreds of activists gathered at the location.
At least 200 participants were present during the program. The area was heavily guarded by police, APBn, and RAB forces, ensuring security around the venue.
