Hundreds of July fighters blocked Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection demanding the announcement and implementation of the “July Charter” and its inclusion in the national constitution. Traffic has been halted, and security forces are on high alert. Below are the full details of the ongoing protest.
Protest at Shahbagh Over the “July Charter”
On Thursday, July 31, 2025, a large number of July fighters and families of July martyrs and injured gathered at Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka to demand the formal declaration and implementation of the “July Charter”. They are also calling for the inclusion of this charter in the constitutional structure of the state.
The protest began around 11 AM, and since then, traffic in the Shahbagh area and surrounding roads has been completely shut down.

Heavy Security Deployment by Police and BGB
To maintain law and order and avoid any untoward incident, both police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed at the location. Security personnel are seen closely monitoring the protest.
“লাল-সবুজ পতাকা হাতে জুলাই সনদের দাবিতে প্রায় শতাধিক জুলাই যোদ্ধারা শাহবাগে অবস্থান নিয়েছে।”
Translation: “Holding red and green flags, about a hundred July fighters have taken position at Shahbagh in demand of the July Charter.”
Why Are They Protesting?
According to the protesters, despite repeated demands, the government has not taken any steps to formally recognize or implement the July Charter. They say that this charter is not just a demand, but their fundamental right.
“জুলাই সনদ আমাদের দাবি নয়, এটি আমাদের অধিকার।”
Translation: “The July Charter is not our demand; it is our right.”
They further warned that if the promises made regarding the charter are not fulfilled, they will build a temporary stage at Shahbagh and continue their protest indefinitely.
“দাবি আদায় না হওয়া পর্যন্ত আন্দোলন চলবে।”
Translation: “The movement will continue until our demands are fulfilled.”
Police Statement
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Monsur told the media:
“অবরোধের কারণে শাহবাগ মোড় ও এর আশপাশের রাস্তায় যান চলাচল বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে।”
Translation: “Due to the blockade, all traffic around Shahbagh intersection and surrounding roads has been stopped.”
