The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Bangladesh signed a $150 million loan agreement on August 3 to enhance Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The initiative aims to improve teacher training, expand access to underserved areas, and align the country’s workforce with global market demands. The program will benefit over 10,000 teachers and more than 250,000 students, supporting Bangladesh’s Integrated TVET Development Action Plan (ITDAP).
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Bangladesh have signed a $150 million loan agreement aimed at transforming the country’s technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector. The agreement was formalized at a ceremony held on 3 August at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) in Dhaka.
The agreement was signed by Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary of the ERD, on behalf of Bangladesh, and Hoe Yun Jeong, Country Director of ADB, on behalf of the development bank, according to an official press release.

Hoe Yun Jeong, ADB Country Director said,
“Aligned with the country’s economic diversification priorities, the program targets five key technology clusters: mechanical, electronics and electrical, information and communication technology, civil, and food and agriculture.”
He further noted that the initiative,
“It supports Bangladesh’s priority agenda of job creation, addresses non-income dimensions of poverty and social exclusion, and enhances access to decent employment and competitiveness in the global market, aligned with the government’s Integrated TVET Development Action Plan (ITDAP)”.
Program Overview: “TVET Teachers for the Future”
This results-based assistance will be implemented under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Teachers for the Future Program, which focuses on the following key areas:

Modern teacher training expansion, particularly in underserved regions beyond Dhaka

Enhancement of pedagogical and technical skills among educators in emerging technologies

Strengthening institutional systems for teacher development, management, and reporting
-
Establishing a nationwide continuous professional development (CPD) system to sustain long-term quality and relevance of TVET
By the conclusion of the program:

10,000 new and existing TVET teachers will receive capacity-building training
-
This will positively impact over 250,000 students across Bangladesh
