Two horrific terrorist attacks on journalists have taken place in Gazipur. The first incident took place at Chandana intersection, where miscreants hacked and slit the throat of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin after he went live on Facebook to extort money. The second incident took place in front of Gazipur Sadar Police Station, where another journalist Anwar Hossain Sourav was brutally beaten and stoned by terrorists in public. The incident has caused intense concern and anger among the locals.
Journalist Tuhin hacked to death in Gazipur
Journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin (38) was hacked to death and his throat slit in public in the busy Chandana Chowrasta area of Gazipur metropolis after he went live on Facebook about extortion. The incident occurred around 8 pm on Thursday while he was sitting at a tea shop in front of the Mosque Market.
The deceased Asaduzzaman Tuhin was the Gazipur correspondent of the daily Pratidin Kagoj newspaper. His home is in Bhatipara village of Fulbaria police station in Mymensingh. He lived with his family in the Chandana Chowrasta area of Gazipur.

According to locals, Tuhin went live on Facebook on Thursday afternoon about illegal shops and extortion. Shortly after posting a video titled ‘Scenes of crossing the road as you please’ on his Facebook profile around 8 pm, he was drinking tea at a tea shop in front of the Mosque Market. Then suddenly some miscreants attacked him and killed him by slashing his throat with sharp weapons.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Basan Police Station Shaheen Khan said,
‘খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে মর্গে পাঠিয়েছে। কারা বা কী কারণে এ খুনের ঘটনা ঘটেছে তা জানার চেষ্টা চলছে। খুনিদের ধরতে পুলিশ অভিযানে নেমেছে।’
Translation: “Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. Efforts are underway to find out who committed the murder or why. The police have launched an operation to arrest the murderers.”
Another Journalist Terrorists in Gazipur, stoned his legs
On the same day, terrorists brutally beat journalist Anwar Hossain Sourav and stoned his legs in front of Gazipur Sadar Police Station. The incident came to light through a video that went viral on social media on Thursday. Although policemen were present during the torture, they did not intervene initially.
Anwar is the Gazipur correspondent of the daily Bangladesh Alo newspaper. Locals said that he was the victim of this horrific attack around 5 pm on Wednesday.
In the viral video, it is seen that some miscreants dragged Anwar on the road and beat him up. Some hit him with sticks, some with kicks, and some with bricks. At one stage, one miscreant attacked Anwar, crushed his legs and body with bricks, and jumped on his chest. This torture took place in the presence of a policeman.
Later, Anwar was admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in a seriously injured condition. Hospital sources said he suffered serious injuries to his legs and there are serious injury marks on various parts of his body. Anwar Hossain’s mother Anwara Begum filed a written complaint with the Gazipur Sadar Police Station, naming several people.
Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan said,
এ ঘটনায় মামলা হয়েছে। ইতোমধ্যে দুইজনকে গ্রেপ্তারও করা হয়েছে।
Translation: A case has been filed in this incident. Two people have already been arrested.
