The female contingent of the Bangladesh Police, serving in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), has been awarded the UN Peacekeeping Medal for their outstanding contributions. The medal ceremony was held in Kinshasa on August 7, with UN and mission officials praising their professionalism, dedication, and role in promoting gender equality.
Recognition for Outstanding Service in Congo
In Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the female members of the Bangladesh Police contingent, known as BANFPU-1, received the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal. The award was given on Thursday, August 7, in recognition of their exceptional service in the MONUSCO mission.
Ceremony Attended by UN and Mission Leaders
The medal awarding ceremony was graced by Bintou Keita, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, as the chief guest. The information was shared in a press release signed by AHM Shahadat Hossain, AIG (Media and PR) at the Bangladesh Police Headquarters.

Presence of Senior Officials
The event was chaired by Contingent Commander Superintendent of Police (SP) Kazi Rubaiyat Rumi. Also present was Alain Bamenou, the head of MONUSCO Police Component and Acting Commissioner General. Under the leadership of SP Kazi Rubaiyat Rumi, a total of 178 peacekeepers attended the ceremony, of whom 68 women were honored with the UN medal.
Joint Awards with Other Police Officers
In addition to BANFPU-1 members, 23 Individual Police Officers (IPOs) serving in different sections of MONUSCO in Kinshasa also received the UN Peacekeeping Medal alongside the Bangladeshi contingent.
High Praise for Professionalism and Gender Equality
In her speech, Bintou Keita highly appreciated the professionalism, sense of duty, and discipline of the Bangladesh Police members. She expressed special gratitude for the remarkable contributions of the female peacekeepers.

Operational Skills and Community Engagement Highlighted
In his remarks, General Alain Bamenou praised BANFPU-1 for their operational efficiency, public engagement, and coordinated activities with the local police. He specifically mentioned their success in public order management, joint patrols, and capacity-building training programs.
Parade Leadership
The role of Parade Marshal was performed by Operations Officer Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tapas Kumar Pal, while Parade Commander was ASP Nasrin Akter. The event was also attended by IPO members and senior MONUSCO officials.
