Asif Mahmud, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, announced that he will not serve as part of the upcoming election-time government. Speaking on a TV talk show, he emphasized that his role in the current government was to implement orders issued in July, not to enjoy power. He also highlighted that key reforms, including local government restructuring, are still incomplete and must be completed as a “historic duty.”
Decision Not to Join Election Government
Asif Mahmud clarified that he will step aside before the elections and will not participate in the election-time government.

Translation: Those who are active in politics should not be part of the election-time government. Therefore, I will resign before the election schedule is announced.

Role in the Current Government
Asif Mahmud emphasized that his responsibility in the current administration was purely to implement the July orders, not to hold or enjoy power.
সরকারে আমার ভূমিকা ছিল জুলাই ঘোষণার আদেশগুলো বাস্তবায়ন করা, ক্ষমতা উপভোগ করা নয়।
Translation: My role in the government was to implement the orders of the July declaration, not to enjoy power.
Past Political Role and Future Plans
Asif Mahmud, a former student leader, played a key role in the anti-inequality movement of 2024, which contributed to the mass uprising that led to the fall of the Awami League government.
However, he did not clearly state whether he will contest the upcoming national election or join the National Citizen Party (NCP).
