Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has shared a lighthearted detail about his personal routine — sometimes going to Neela Market for duck meat in the early morning, and if it’s closed, heading to the Westin Hotel. He also responded to allegations linking him to an extortion case in Gulshan, denying recent contact with the accused and calling for fair election practices.
Comments on the Extortion Allegation
Recently, Asif Mahmud’s name came up in connection with an alleged extortion case in Gulshan. When asked about it at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon, he said the matter was still under investigation.
Bangla: “প্রথমত এই বিষয়টা এখনো তদন্ত চলছে, তাই এটা নিয়ে মন্তব্য করাটা উচিত না। তারপরও যেহেতু আমার নাম স্পেসিফিক সেখানে এসেছে এবং নামটা আসার পরে আমি একরকম অবাকই হই।”
Translation:
“First of all, this matter is still under investigation, so it is not right to comment on it. Still, since my name was specifically mentioned there, I was quite surprised when I heard it.”

He further explained that he knew Jane Alam Opu when he was part of the Student Rights Council in 2022.
Bangla: “জানে আলম অপুকে আমি চিনতাম যখন আমি ছাত্র অধিকার পরিষদে ছিলাম ২০২২ সালে। ৫ আগস্টের পর তার সঙ্গে আমার কখনো কথা বা দেখা হয়নি।”
Translation:
“I knew Jane Alam Opu when I was in the Student Rights Council in 2022. After August 5, I have never spoken to him or met him.”
Why He Goes to Neela Market or Westin in the Early Morning
Asif Mahmud shared a personal habit during the conversation, revealing that after late-night work, he sometimes eats at Neela Market on 300 Feet Road.
Bangla: “আমি মাঝেমধ্যে রাতে যখন কাজ শেষ হয়, কখনো ভোর হয়, সে সময় বাসায় খাওয়া-দাওয়া দেওয়ার মতো কেউ থাকে না। তখন আমি বেশিরভাগ সময় যাই ৩০০ ফিটের নীলা মার্কেটে। সেখানে হাঁসের মাংস খুব ভালো পাওয়া যায়। ওখানে যাই ৪-৫ জন মিলে। আবার মাঝেমধ্যে বেশি ভোর হয়ে গেলে সেখানে বন্ধ থাকে, তখন ওয়েস্টিনে যাওয়া হয়।”
Translation: “Sometimes when I finish work late at night, sometimes even by dawn, there is no one at home to serve food. At that time, I usually go to Neela Market on 300 Feet Road. They have very good duck meat there, and I go with 4-5 people. If it’s too late and the place is closed, then we go to the Westin.”
His View on Election Participation by Advisers
When asked whether he would participate in the election, Asif Mahmud emphasized the need for fairness and neutrality during the election period.
Bangla: “আমি বলেছি যাদেরই রাজনীতি করার ইচ্ছা আছে, আমার বা মাহফুজ আলম বা ছাত্র উপদেষ্টারাই না, এই সরকারে অনেকের পূর্ববর্তী রাজনৈতিক পরিচয় আছে, সামনেও রাজনীতি করবেন কিংবা নির্বাচন করবেন, আমি মনে করি যে সবারই তফসিলের পর পদত্যাগ করা উচিত একটা স্বচ্ছ এবং সুষ্ঠু কোন প্রকার প্রভাবমুক্ত নির্বাচন আয়োজনের জন্য।”
Translation: “I have said that anyone who wishes to do politics — not just me, Mahfuz Alam, or student advisers — there are many in this government with past political backgrounds who will also do politics or contest elections in the future. I think everyone should resign after the election schedule is announced to ensure a transparent and fair election free from influence.”
He clarified what he meant by the “election period.”
Bangla: “নির্বাচনকালীন বলতে আমি বুঝিয়েছি তফসিল ঘোষণার পরবর্তী সময়টাকে। যারাই রাজনীতি করতে চান, শুধু ছাত্র উপদেষ্টারা না, যারাই চাইবে তাদেরই উচিত নির্বাচনের সময়টাতে না থাকা যেন কোনোভাবেই নির্বাচন প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ না হয়।”
Translation: “By the election period, I meant the time after the election schedule is announced. Whoever wants to do politics — not just student advisers — should not remain in position during that time so that the election cannot be questioned in any way.”
