In Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj upazila, miscreants brutally killed Nazrul Islam Nazir, a local leader of the labor wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He was taken from his house at midnight and attacked with sharp weapons. The murder has caused deep shock and unrest in the area. Police have started investigating but no arrests have been made yet.
Incident at Midnight
On Saturday night (16 August), in Shital village under Gobindaganj upazila, a shocking incident took place. Miscreants forcibly took Nazrul Islam Nazir from his home and killed him with sharp weapons.
Local people said that signs of blood and evidence of the killing were found at the crime scene.
Victim’s Role and Identity
Nazrul Islam Nazir was serving as the Ward President of Nakai Union under the labor wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, known as Shromik Kalyan Federation.
The killing has brought a wave of fear, tension, and grief to the entire area. Locals have strongly demanded immediate action against the killers.

One resident said:
Bangla: “দ্রুত অপরাধীদের শনাক্ত করে তাদের কঠোর শাস্তি দিতে হবে।”
Translation: “The criminals must be identified quickly and given strict punishment.”
Political Allegations
Local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami claimed that this murder was a result of political revenge. They mentioned that Nazir was active at the local level and had previously faced threats.
They stated:
Bangla: “নজরুল ইসলাম নজির স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে সক্রিয় ছিলেন এবং তার বিরুদ্ধে হুমকি ছিল।”
Translation: “Nazrul Islam Nazir was active in local politics and there were threats against him.”
However, police have not confirmed any political motive yet.
Police Investigation
A senior officer of Gaibandha District Police said that the incident is being taken seriously. He assured that strong measures are being taken to arrest the killers soon.
The officer mentioned:
Bangla: “ঘটনাটি গুরুত্বের সঙ্গে নেওয়া হয়েছে এবং হত্যাকারীদের গ্রেপ্তারে সব ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হচ্ছে।”
Translation: “The case is being taken very seriously and all measures are being taken to arrest the killers.”
Security Measures and Next Steps
After the murder, police and local administration have increased security in the area. Residents have been asked to remain calm.
Meanwhile, Nazir’s family members and supporters are preparing to organize human chains and protests demanding justice for his killing.
