Bangladesh-Brazil Trade and Investment

Brazil has expressed interest in investing in Bangladesh. Brazil is particularly interested in investing in meat processing, agriculture, leather and footwear sectors. The country’s ambassador, Paulo Fernando Diaz Perez, said that it would be possible to import beef from Brazil at a lower price if it gets a halal certificate. He also assured cooperation in sports, health, agriculture and defense sectors. Trade and bilateral relations will be discussed at the Bangladesh-Brazil meeting in October.

Brazilian Ambassador to Dhaka Paulo Fernando Diaz Perez said that various Brazilian companies want to invest in Bangladesh. Especially meat processing companies are interested in setting up meat processing factories in Bangladesh.

He gave this information after exchanging views with the South Asian Climate Change Journalists Forum, Bangladesh Chapter on the World Climate Conference COP-30 on Tuesday (August 19) morning.

Beef import plan in Bangladesh

The ambassador said that Brazil wants to export animal meat, especially beef, to Bangladesh at low prices. However, the process has stalled after the fall of the previous government. He expressed hope that the export process will be accelerated if the Bangladesh government quickly issues a halal certificate for Brazilian meat.

He mentioned that the price of importing beef from Brazil will be only one dollar (120-125 taka). At the same time, Brazil wants to be a partner in developing Bangladesh’s cow and milk production.

Translation: Various Brazilian companies want to invest in Bangladesh. In particular, meat processing companies want to set up meat processing factories in Bangladesh.

Partnership Opportunities

Brazilian private entrepreneurs will be interested in working together with Bangladeshi entrepreneurs if they get halal certificates. The country also wants to provide technical assistance in the agricultural sector.

Expansion of bilateral trade relations

Brazil is interested in increasing not only exports but also imports of leather and shoes from Bangladesh. Various aspects of bilateral relations, including trade and investment, will be discussed at the Bangladesh-Brazil 3rd Foreign Office Consultation to be held in Dhaka in October.

Cooperation in sports, agriculture and defense sectors

The ambassador said that Brazil wants to sign memorandums of understanding (MoU) in Bangladesh in sports, agriculture, health and defense sectors. Brazil is especially ready to cooperate in the development of football in Bangladesh.

Brazil’s message on climate change

At this time, Ambassador Fernando said that although rich countries are responsible for climate change, they do not want to provide the promised financial assistance. However, it will not happen by sitting still, but rather, the damage must be dealt with through coordinated initiatives. He urged journalists to play an important role in this regard.
