10 Aircraft Wheels Stolen from Biman Bangladesh Airlines

Aircraft Wheels

A shocking incident has surfaced in Biman Bangladesh Airlines. Ten aircraft wheels, worth nearly one crore taka, were allegedly stolen and handed over to a private airline by two Biman employees. Although the wheels were marked as “unserviceable” and kept in the auction shed near the hangar at Shahjalal International Airport, their disappearance has sparked an investigation. A General Diary (GD) has been filed at the airport police station, and police are now looking into the matter.

The Allegation of Theft

According to Biman officials, two employees of the national airline are accused of stealing 10 aircraft wheels and secretly giving them to a private airline for use.

An investigation has already started regarding this unusual incident.

Value of the Missing Wheels

A senior Biman official, who did not want to reveal his name, explained that the cost of each wheel is between 5,000 to 15,000 US dollars.
This means that the total value of the stolen wheels is nearly one crore taka.

He further said:

“চাকার ব্যবহার মেয়াদ শেষ হয়েছিল এবং সেগুলো হ্যাঙ্গারের পাশে ‘অকশন শেডে’ সংরক্ষিত ছিল। ঘটনাটি নিয়ে বর্তমানে তদন্ত চলমান।”
Translation: “The wheels had already expired for use and were stored in the ‘auction shed’ beside the hangar. The matter is currently under investigation.”

General Diary Filed

On Monday, Biman’s Assistant Manager (Security), Mosharref Hossain, filed a GD at the Airport Police Station.
Interestingly, the GD did not directly mention the term “theft”.

The GD stated that on Saturday, August 16, ten unserviceable aircraft tires went missing from the auction shed near the hangar complex of Shahjalal International Airport.

Employees Questioned

Following the incident, two employees were interrogated:

  • Arman Hossain – Supervisor of Material Management

  • Shamsul Haque – Store Helper

According to their statement, the missing wheels were handed over to an official of a private airline for “temporary use.” However, the case file alleges that they did not inform the proper authorities before doing this.

Police Statement

Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taslima Akter confirmed the filing of the GD.
She said:

“উড়োজাহাজের চাকার বিষয়ে বিমানের পক্ষ থেকে একটি জিডি করা হয়েছে। পুলিশ নিয়ম অনুযায়ী প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা নিচ্ছে।”
Translation: “A GD has been filed by Biman regarding the aircraft wheels. Police are taking necessary action as per procedure.”

Maintenance Concerns Add to Worries

This incident comes at a time when several Biman aircraft have recently faced mechanical problems, raising questions about the airline’s maintenance system.
Now, with the news of missing aircraft wheels, the spotlight is again on the airline’s safety and management issues.
