Slutshaming Is Not Politics, It’s Male Hatred – Hasnat Abdullah

Hasnat Abdullah

Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP) in the southern region, has strongly spoken against the trend of slut-shaming women in politics. In a Facebook post on August 25, he explained that despite being a victim of class hatred, he stands firmly against attacks on women such as Rumin Farhana and others. He called it not politics but a dirty reflection of patriarchal hatred that must be challenged.

Victim of Class Hatred but Standing for Women

In his verified Facebook post, Hasnat Abdullah shared that he himself has been a victim of class hatred but still remains clear about his position regarding women.

He wrote:

Translation: “Even though I have been a victim of class hatred, I am making my clear position against slut-shaming towards any woman, including Rumin Farhana.”

No Right to Attack Women Personally

Hasnat Abdullah pointed out that no matter what a woman’s political position is—whether she belongs to BNP, NCP, leftist, rightist, or even no party at all—no one has the right to shame her personal life.

He wrote:

Translation: “No matter what her political position is—BNP, NCP, leftist, rightist, or independent—no one has the right to drag her body, relationships, clothing, or personal life into slut-shaming. This is not politics; it is the dirtiest form of patriarchal hatred.”

Hypocrisy of Progressive Faces

He criticized the hypocrisy of some people who present themselves as progressive but practice hatred against women when it suits them.

He explained:

Translation: “The frightening part is this practice of hatred often comes from people wearing the mask of progressiveness. They talk about women’s rights on one side but on the other, when a woman disagrees with their politics, they attack her character.”

Hasnat Abdullah mentioned that several women like Rumin Farhana, Tasnim Jara, Samantha, Umama, Tajnuva, and Mansura have all been targets of such hateful tradition.

Double Standards in Politics

He also criticized the double standard where slut-shaming is taken lightly when it is done against opponents but encouraged when it benefits one’s own political side.

Translation: “If someone is in favor of a party, slut-shaming is taken lightly, but if they are against, it is encouraged. This double standard not only makes politics indecent but also normalizes misogyny.”

He emphasized that standing against this practice is not just a casual response but an urgent political struggle.

A Political Struggle That Must Continue

Hasnat ended his statement by stressing the importance of continuing the fight against this hatred, regardless of party or ideology.

Translation: “Taking a stand against this hatred is not a ‘normalized response’; it is an urgent political struggle. No matter the party, ideology, or identity, this fight must continue.”
