Background of the Show-Cause Notice

In the suspension letter issued to Fazlur Rahman, it was mentioned that a show-cause notice was served to him on 24 August 2025. Instead of submitting a written reply within the given time, he requested an extension. In response, BNP granted him an additional 24 hours to provide his explanation. However, when he finally submitted his written reply on 26 August, the party found it unsatisfactory.

Decision of Temporary Suspension

The letter further stated that although his reply was not acceptable, considering his contributions as a freedom fighter in the Liberation War, BNP refrained from taking harsher organizational measures. His primary membership along with all party positions at every level has been suspended for three months by directive.

Advisory on Public Statements

BNP also cautioned Fazlur Rahman regarding his future conduct. The letter advised that while speaking on talk shows or social media, he must ensure that:

  • The country’s dignity is not undermined.

  • The party’s policies are not violated.

  • The religious sentiments of the people are not hurt.
