Rumin Farhana’s Unique Role in BNP
Former MP and political analyst Golam Maula Rony said that Rumin Farhana has done single-handedly what even 100 BNP leaders could not achieve. He described her as a fearless and intelligent leader, rare in BNP politics.
Rony said in his video statement:
“রুমিন ফারহানা রাজনীতির একজন রায়বাঘিনি। বিএনপিতে তার মতো নেত্রী খুব একটা নেই। এমনকী তার মতো সাহসী ও বুদ্ধিমতী হওয়ার কারণে বিরোধী পক্ষের সবাই রুমিন ফারহানাকে নিয়ে ষরযন্ত্রে লিপ্ত হয়েছেন।”
Translation: “Rumin Farhana is a tigress in politics. There are very few leaders like her in BNP. Because of her courage and intelligence, even the opposition plots against her.”

Her Strong Background and Image
In the video, Rony highlighted her family background, saying it gave her extra respect compared to others. He even called her:
“Beauty with Brain.”
Rony added that BNP’s failure to strongly support capable leaders like Rumin is one of their big mistakes.
Fearless Voice in Politics
Rony pointed out that Rumin’s courage made her stand out in Bangladesh’s political arena:
“রুমিন ফারহানার বাবা ওলিহাদকে যারা চিনেন সেই দিক থেকে বিএনপিতে আসলে তার সঙ্গে বড় কথা বলার মত কেউ নেই… কিন্তু ওয়ান টু ওয়ান তাকে নিয়ে প্রকাশ্যিক কথা বলার মতো বিএনপিতে দূরের কথা বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতিতে খুব অল্প লোক আছে।”
Translation: “Those who know her father Olihad understand that within BNP there is hardly anyone who can confront her. Even in Bangladesh’s politics, very few can openly face her one-on-one.”
He also said if strong leaders like Salauddin Quader Chowdhury had challenged her, she would have replied back without hesitation.
The Problem of Male-Dominated Politics
Golam Maula Rony reflected on how a smart woman leader is often a problem in a male-dominated society:
“নারী যখন ব্রেইনি হয় মানে বিউটি উইথ ব্রেন। তখন এটা পুরুষের জন্য ভীষণ রকম একটা অস্বস্তিকর বিষয় হয়ে পড়ে, বিশেষ করে পুরুষতান্ত্রিক সমাজে।”
Translation: “When a woman is brainy – beauty with brain – it becomes extremely uncomfortable for men, especially in a patriarchal society.”
He said many in society prefer soft and quiet women, which makes strong women like Rumin a target of criticism.
Rumin’s Impact in Parliament
During BNP’s difficult times, Rumin Farhana became the lone fighter who kept the party alive inside Parliament.
“সংসদে হাসতে হাসতে কথা বলে যখন তিনি মাইক ধরেছেন তখন আওয়ামী লীগের স্পিকার থেকে শুরু করে সবাই বুঝতে পারতো না যে তিনি আসলে কী বলছেন… বিএনপিকে উজ্জীবিত করে রেখেছিলেন একাই।”
Translation: “When she spoke in Parliament with a smile, even the Awami League Speaker could not fully grasp her words. She alone kept BNP alive and inspired.”
Rony added that one of her speeches was enough to bring BNP into the spotlight, something 100 leaders across the country could not achieve. He also said that in TV talk shows, she is currently BNP’s number one star.
BNP’s Mistakes and Silence
Despite her strength, Rony feels BNP has not stood firmly behind her. He also criticized BNP for sacrificing loyal grassroots leaders across districts.
“রুমিন ফারহানাকে নিয়ে বিএনপিতে যে বিতর্ক তৈরি হয়েছে সেই বিতর্কে মূলত রুমিন ফারহানার যতটা না ক্ষতি হবে, একই ক্ষতি বিএনপির হবে।”
Translation: “The controversy around Rumin Farhana will not harm her alone; BNP will face equal damage.”
Golam Maula Rony gave examples from Comilla, where loyal BNP leaders were sidelined. According to him, BNP’s silence in protecting its dedicated members is dangerous:
“নিজের দলের যারা বিপদের দিনের বিশ্বস্ত বন্ধু তাদেরকে জবাই করার, তাদেরকে কোরবানি দেওয়ার বা তাদেরকে শ্মশানে পাঠানোর যে নীরবতা অবলম্বন করছে এটি আল্টিমেটলি এই দলটিকে শেষ করে দিবে।”
Translation: “By silently sacrificing and abandoning its loyal friends in tough times, BNP is ultimately destroying itself.”
