DUCSU Election: Abid vs Election Manipulation, Sadiq vs Campus Instability

DUCSU

VP candidates from opposing panels accuse each other of irregularities in the DUCSU election. Concerns over vote manipulation and potential campus unrest dominate the discussion.

Dhaka University’s central student union (DUCSU) election has seen allegations of vote manipulation and unrest. Student leaders from different panels have raised concerns about irregularities and attempts to disrupt the election.

Student Party-supported VP candidate Abidul Islam Khan strongly criticized the election, saying,

“এই নির্বাচন পরিপূর্ণভাবে হাসিনা ফ্যাসিস্টের নির্বাচনকে ছাড়িয়ে গিয়েছে। এই নির্বাচন পরিপূর্ণভাবে কারচুপির নির্বাচনে রূপান্তরিত হচ্ছে।”

Translation: “This election has completely surpassed Hasina’s fascist election. This election is turning entirely into a rigged election.”

Meanwhile, VP candidate Sadiq Kayem of the Student Unity Alliance warned of serious consequences if anyone tries to destabilize the campus:

“ক্যাম্পাস অস্থিতিশীল করার চেষ্টা করা হলে তাদের পরিণতি শেখ হাসিনার থেকেও খারাপ হবে।”

Translation: “If anyone tries to destabilize the campus, their fate will be worse than Hasina’s.”

Kayem also demanded a thorough investigation into all reported irregularities and emphasized that students’ decisions must be respected. Both candidates highlighted issues at multiple voting centres, including blocked access for polling agents and observers.

The election marks the 38th DUCSU vote in 100 years, with around 40,000 students registered to vote across 810 booths in eight centres, including for the first time, academic buildings outside residential halls.
