Victory for Students, Not Individuals
After winning the Vice President (VP) post from the Shibir-backed panel in the Daksu Election 2025, Sadiq Kayem emphasized that the real winners were Dhaka University students.
He said:
“ডাকসুতে জয় বা পরাজয় কিছু নেই। এখানে জুলাই প্রজন্ম, ঢাবি শিক্ষার্থীরা বিজয়ী হয়েছে।”
Translation: “In Daksu, there is no win or defeat. Here, the July generation, the students of Dhaka University, have won.”

Remembering the Martyrs and Victims
In his first reaction, Sadiq Kayem started by remembering the sacrifices of different generations.
“মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সকল শহীদ, ’৯০-এর শহীদ, আবরার ফাহাদ, ছাত্রলীগ নির্যাতিত সবাইকে স্মরণ করছি। দৃঢ়কণ্ঠে বলতে চাই, আমানতের যথাযথ রক্ষণাবেক্ষণ করবো।”
Translation: “I remember all the martyrs of the Liberation War, the martyrs of 1990, Abrar Fahad, and all those oppressed by student politics. With a firm voice, I want to say that I will properly protect this trust.”
He added that as VP, he does not only want to be seen as a leader but as a brother to every student.
“ডাকসুর ভিপি হিসেবে নয়, নিজেকে একজন ভাই হিসেবে পরিচয় দিতে চাই। সাদিক কায়েমকে আগে যেমন দেখেছেন, এখনও তেমনই দেখবেন ইনশাআল্লাহ।”
Translation: “Not as the VP of Daksu, but I want to introduce myself as a brother. You will see Sadiq Kayem as you have always seen him, InshAllah.”
Unity and Safe Campus
Sadiq also praised the role of students in organizing and making the election successful.
“যে ধর্মের, মতের, পথের হোক না কেন— সবাই একসাথে এগিয়ে যাবো। ঢাবিকে পূর্ণাঙ্গ একাডেমিক ইনস্টিটিউট হিসেবে গড়ে তুলবো। নিরাপদ ক্যাম্পাস হবে নারীদের জন্য। শিক্ষার্থীদের চাওয়াই আমাদের চাওয়া।”
Translation: “No matter the religion, belief, or path—we will all move forward together. We will build Dhaka University into a complete academic institute. The campus will be safe for women. Students’ demand is our demand.”
Fight for a Dream Campus
The newly elected VP vowed to continue struggling until Dhaka University turns into the dream campus students want.
“স্বপ্নের ক্যাম্পাস বিনির্মাণ হওয়ার আগ পর্যন্ত লড়াই চালিয়ে যাবো। যারা নির্বাচনে অংশ নিয়েছে, তারা প্রত্যেকে একেকজন উপদেষ্টা। আশা করি তারা সবাই পরামর্শ দেবেন। জুলাই বিপ্লব ঢাবি থেকে শুরু হয়েছিল। এখান থেকেই দেশের গণতান্ত্রিক পরিবেশ নিশ্চিতের লড়াই চলবে।”
Translation: “We will continue the struggle until the dream campus is built. Everyone who took part in the election is an adviser. I hope they all will give their guidance. The July revolution started from Dhaka University. From here, the fight to ensure the country’s democratic environment will continue.”
GS-Elect SM Farhad’s Reaction
SM Farhad Hossain, President of Dhaka University Shibir and the newly elected General Secretary (GS) of Daksu, called the victory a responsibility more than a celebration.
“এই বিজয় সকল ঢাবি শিক্ষার্থীর। তাদের বিশাল আমানত রক্ষার ঘোষণা এটি। কোনও ভুল করলে সেটি আমাকে জানাবেন। কোনোরকম বিজয় মিছিলে আমরা যেতে চাইছি না। এটা আমাদের আমানতদারীর পরীক্ষা।”
Translation: “This victory belongs to all Dhaka University students. It is a declaration to protect their great trust. If I make any mistake, please inform me. We do not want to hold any victory procession. This is our test of responsibility.”
