Six Babies
Highlights

A woman named Priya has given birth to six babies at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Among them, three are boys and three are girls. Due to their premature birth and low weight, all the newborns are under special medical care.

Six Babies Born Together

On Sunday morning (14 September), around 9 am, a woman named Priya gave birth to six children at Ward 212 of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. This rare event shocked doctors and relatives alike.

The six babies include three boys and three girls. However, since they were born premature and with very low weight, doctors had to take special measures for their survival.

Condition of the Newborns

Doctors said the newborns’ weights are between 615 grams and 900 grams. Since all of them are extremely underweight, they require constant monitoring.

Out of the six babies, three were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Dhaka Medical, while the other three were transferred to a private hospital NICU due to lack of available beds. Among them, two babies are in critical condition.

Family Background

Priya’s sister-in-law, Farzana Akhter, shared details with reporters. She said their home is in Khajuria village of Senbagh upazila, Noakhali. Priya’s husband, Md. Hanif, currently works in Qatar.

Farzana explained that Priya was in her 27th week of pregnancy. Earlier, during regular medical check-ups, an ultrasound showed she was carrying five babies.

Events Before Delivery

On 9 September, Priya went to her elder sister’s home in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. From there, she received treatment at Monowara Hospital. Later, when she suddenly developed labor pain on Saturday night, her relatives rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On Sunday morning, Priya gave birth to all six babies through normal delivery, which doctors considered remarkable.

Doctors’ Statement

Dr. Nilufar Yasmin, a medical officer of Dhaka Medical’s Neonatal Department, confirmed the news. She said:

  • The babies were born at 27 weeks of pregnancy, making them highly premature.
  • Three of them could be admitted to Dhaka Medical’s NICU, but due to space shortage, the other three had to be kept at a private hospital.
  • Doctors are trying to shift them back once NICU beds are available.

Dr. Yasmin added that two of the babies are in a very risky condition, but all of them are under close medical observation.
