Fazlur Rahman Requests BNP to Withdraw Suspension
Freedom fighter and BNP Chairperson’s adviser Advocate Md. Fazlur Rahman has urged the party to withdraw the suspension order against him. He said this appeal is especially important as the Kishoreganj District Conference is approaching.
He stated in a Facebook video message:
“বিএনপি নেতাকর্মীদের অনুরোধ করব আমার স্থগিত আদেশ উঠিয়ে নিন। সামনে কিশোরগঞ্জ জেলা সম্মেলন। আমি দীর্ঘ আট বছর ধরে এই সম্মেলন করেছি।”
Translation: “I request BNP leaders and activists to withdraw my suspension order. The Kishoreganj district conference is ahead, and I have organized it for the past eight years.”

His Frustration and Pain
Fazlur Rahman expressed sadness over being excluded despite his sacrifices for the party.
“আমাকে বলে আমি বাতিল হয়ে গেছি, কিশোরগঞ্জ সম্মেলনে যেতে পারব না। কে সহ্য করতে পারে এগুলা। আমিও তো মানুষ, এই দলের জন্য কি-না করেছি। জেল খেটেছি নির্বাসনে রয়েছি, দেশ নেত্রী খালেদা জিয়ার নামে ৩০০ বক্তব্য দিয়েছি। যেটি বিশ্ব রেকর্ড।”
Translation: “They tell me I am canceled and cannot attend the Kishoreganj conference. Who can tolerate such things? I am also human; I have done everything for this party. I was jailed, I lived in exile, and I gave 300 speeches in Khaleda Zia’s name. That is a world record.”
Criticism of Party Leaders and Suspension
He explained that his speeches often criticized corruption within BNP and praised Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman. For one such speech, he was suspended for three months.
“তারেক রহমান সাহেবের নামে আমি যে বক্তৃতা করি, বিএনপির নেতাদের চাঁদাবাজি, ধান্দাবাজির বিরুদ্ধে আমি যে বক্তৃতা করি, এই বক্তৃতা কেউ করে না। একটা কথার জন্য আমাকে তিন মাসের জন্য দলের সব প্রকার কর্মকাণ্ড থেকে স্থগিত করা হয়েছে।”
Translation: “I gave speeches in the name of Tarique Rahman and spoke against BNP leaders’ extortion and corruption—no one else does that. For just one remark, I was suspended from all party activities for three months.”
He added that he accepted the punishment but asked for the suspension to be withdrawn before the conference.
His Role in BNP’s History
Fazlur Rahman reminded people of his long service to BNP, especially in Kishoreganj.
“২০০৮ সালে শেখ হাসিনা ক্ষমতায় আসার পরে খালেদা জিয়া আমাকে বিএনপির আহ্বায়ক করে কিশোরগঞ্জে দল গঠন করে। আমি আহ্বায়ক ও কিশোরগঞ্জের সভাপতি ছিলাম। আমি হামলার শিকার হয়ে হাসপাতালে ভর্তি ছিলাম। গায়ের রক্ত নিয়ে সম্মেলনে হাজির হয়েছি।”
Translation: “After Sheikh Hasina came to power in 2008, Khaleda Zia appointed me as BNP’s convener in Kishoreganj. I was convener and district president. Even after being attacked and hospitalized, I went to the conference with blood on my body.”
He noted that he has led for eight years and finds it painful to be absent from the upcoming district conference.
The BNP leader highlighted that at 78 years old, he cannot waste time.
“একটা মানুষের যখন ৬০ বছর হয়ে যায়, তার আর সময় নাই। তার প্রতিটা সময় মহা মূল্যবান, এক মিনিট স্বর্ণের দামে বিক্রি হয়। আমার বয়স কিন্তু ৭৮ বছর, আমাকে তিন মাস ঘরে বসিয়ে রাখবেন, আমাকে কাজ করতে দেবেন না।”
Translation: “When a person reaches 60, time becomes very limited. Every minute is precious, worth more than gold. I am 78 years old, and you want to keep me sitting at home for three months, not allowing me to work.”
Considering the Future
Fazlur Rahman warned that if BNP does not lift his suspension, he may have to make a difficult choice.
“যদি না করে সামনে আমার দুটি পথ- একটা হলো রাজনীতি ছেড়ে দেওয়া। আর একটা হলো রাজনীতি করতে হলে ভিন্ন পথ খুঁতে হবে। যদি বিএনপি আমার সাসপেনশন তুলে না নিয়ে বরখাস্ত করে।”
Translation: “If they do not lift it, I have two paths: one is to quit politics, and the other is to find a different path if I want to continue politics. If BNP does not withdraw my suspension and instead expels me, I will have to decide.”
Hints of a New Political Force
He also suggested the idea of forming a new political platform for freedom fighters, comparing it to the rise of Imran Khan’s party in Pakistan.
“আমি আবারও বলে দিলাম মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষে একটা দল হবে। এই দলটা যদি নির্বাচন করে, এই দলটা কিন্তু দাঁড়াবে। ইমরান খানের মতো দল হিসাবে দাঁড়াবে। প্রতিটি জায়গা থেকে একজন করে দাঁড়াবে। ৩০০ ক্যান্ডিডেট হবে আমি বলে দিলাম।”
Translation: “I am saying again, there will be a party in favor of the Liberation War. If this party contests elections, it will stand strong, like Imran Khan’s party. From every place, one candidate will stand. I am saying there will be 300 candidates.”
